How can't i get my car to idle, and how can i tune it so it wont run too rich or lean? I need to get it to the shop to have an exhaust shop put a new pipe on and i wana know will my car hold an idle without a cat and only the back cans, its a 1990 gxl n/a auto. o yea theres no sound on earth like a 13bI with open exhaust manifolds. plz tell me i dont wana ruin my engine i can tune it right now i just need to know detailed ways to do so.

If you guys can anwser me ited really help, i need to have the car ready to go to the shop today asap. it runs exactly like it did when i ran the car without an airfilter, you gotta give it alot of gas to keep it runing, otherwise it stalls out and dies.

maby i should add why i cut the exhaust off, because we were trying to install a header and it wouldnt fit without cutting stuff off, then after the exhaust was cut out(because all the nuts were welded *thinks about killing the dumbass who sold me the car*) also, would it hurt my engine to drive it 15 miles, my grandpa can drive cars the wont hardly run long enough to get it to a shop. I just dont wana hurt anything i have a very good running engine and i dont wana ruin it.
i know about the 1 screw on the top, thats the idle screw but i just wana know whats going on with my engine, if its lean or rich. i woud guess its not lean because i can smell gas strongly after running it.
and weres the mixture screw, and how much clockwise or counter clock wise do i turn it?

Chances are your running really rich, go find the FSM and look in there, it will be a help. You should also set your TPS.
Do you have a standalone of a SAFC Mephis? If you have a SAFC search for what other ppl are using as settings as go from there (go about half of what they have put cuz there settings could work totally diferently than they will on your engine). But to tune your car, you either need some tools to help you understand where your at, or someone with expiereance(sp I just woke up).

DO NOT MESS WITH THAT SCREW! It is poor advice to tell someone to mess with the screw unless you KNOW it is out of adjustment.
The car will idle a little roughly with no exhaust. Should be fine to drive to the shop and back if you can stand the noise and fumes.

yes my o2 sensor is pluged in, its doing the same as without an airfilter as far as running, the reason its a pain to get over there is if it goes under 1,000rpm it dies, i could idle it up, but i wonder if its easy to get my idle back down after i get the straight pipe installed? or if i should just double foot it over there?
btw is this doing any damage to my engine and how can i prevent damage?
anyway, my grandpa loves the sound( i do to thats why im getting a straight pipe) and hes gona drive it over there for me, he can drive about anything running like that, too bad its an auto just making my life that much harder....

man driving with open manifolds is rough, i could only take it around my block once before i got a headache. get some pipes welded up and it should be fine with a tps adjustment.

ehh i cant stand a quite exhaust, btw if i hollow out a cat will i have the problem of it not idling again? or will it run like normal?
o yea my mechanic also told me, the o2 sensor dont work untill the car is FULLY warmed up, he said youll need to warm it up b4 you can see if its gona idle like normal.
