FINALLY got around to flushing my coolant today. Thank god I did. I cant believe this stuff actually kept my engine cool!!!

I know a little bit of rust or whatever is normal... but my god!

Yours looks pretty sick too ! Anyway the benz actually ran a lot cooler so im sure your car will also!

Corrosion inhibitors in coolant only last for so long. Looks like someone decided to top off with tap water and flush the system... Well, never.

Sucks, man. Does it leak anywhere? Was there oil in it?

No oil in it thank god...

The hose going from the top of the water pump to the top of the radiator had about a 1/4" of crud (rust/mud?) along each connection...

I couldn't jack up my car to flush it the "proper" way... so I just took the hose off the bottom of the radiator and flushed it out a little... then I stuck the hose as far up into the water pump as I could go... and flushed it... I was going to finish it tonight (fill it full of water and let it clean out the engine block a few times) BUT because of this I can't even start the car!!!

its almost impossible for a rotary to mix oil and coolant

Hang on a sec...

That's almost, but not quite as bad as when I flushed the coolant on a friends '86 Hyundai Stellar (auto.) His parents had given it to him, and as far as he knew the coolant had never been flushed. Well, the year was '94 and ******* MUD came out of the bottom of the rad. We flushed it about half a dozen times before we started getting clear water back.

So things could have been worse.

Anyway, I'd suggest throwing some 'coolant flush' into her. The thing is, those products usually say to put it in for 10 minutes.

Screw that. Take your 7 for a drive. A nice, long one. Give the flush a chance to do its job. Then go home, drain it, fill it with clear water (de-mineralized, preferably) and go for another long drive. When you do drain it after that, see whatcha get. If the water's still loaded with goop, I'd say hit the system with another bottle of flush. Lather, rinse, repeat until you get clear water back.

yeah it's looking like a flush is in order, but it may not all be rust. there is orange coolant...first time I ever heard of it was when I flushed my pathfinder, and all this orange goo came out...I was like WTF but I was told that it's the natural colour of the coolant, so hopefully it's not as bad as it looks. btw, the prestone rad flush worked wonders

Well.. there was a bottle of this "all natural, safe for enviroment" bottle of coolant in the car when I bought it... it was full of water.. the other bottle was full of coolant, but it was regular coolant (green/yellow)

I dunno tho... this was rust.

It was pretty much like mud when I first popped the radiator open... but it wasnt mud.. it was gritty sediment (a.k.a. rust )

Im just worried about what the inside of my housings look like now.

So far I drained all the fluid out, ran a hose through it from both holes (right cap side, and left radiator hose).

Took around 15 mins before I saw clear water.
In this time I would fill it full, then dump it, over and over... then I would run the hose through it... etc etc over and over.

After that... I shoved the hose up inside the water pump inlet... it got alot of **** out... then I filled it full of water (tap for now) and went for a 10 min drive (after it warmed up). The temp gauge started to go up a little bit so I shut it off... let it cool down (heard the water boiling... hopefully boiling all that **** off.

Then proceeded to dump the fluid out a few more times. Took about 3 1/2 hours total, and now the inside is perfectly clean (sorta)

Now is full of 50/50 of coolant and distilled water

Hahah...oh **** man... that last pic... that is bad.

Any animal that may happen to lick a drop of that will die. And it's harmful to humans too. You're supposed to dump it down the toilet.

You weren't joking when you picked the name "...red neck", were you?

haha.. they have collection centers for that stuff, or pepboys will take it..

i would reflush the system after a few miles to make sure you get rid of any additional buildup that may have loosened up...

also did you use that prestone flush concentrate? or just water?

Judging by the first batch of photos, unless they're willing to come and suck it out of hisr lawn, they won't be getting any of the old goop...

You might want to take out your waterpump and take a gander at it... we have the same type of nasty coolant issues in my buddy's tII. it wasnt as bad as yours, but the water pump was horrrible...

Just my .2 cents
