I blew up my engine :(
Hey guys I blew up my motor today. Lost all compression in my rear rotor. The car runs but can't keep a steady idle and won't rev past 3k.
Happened at the worst time too, right before autox this sunday and right before the beggining of the regionals.
Complete bad timing for the car to blow up, I spent the entire winter prepping it for autox, TB mod, porting, and suspension. I have a Jspec TII ready to swap but I din't plan to swap it until I race this year on my NA, and now I;m forced to go for the full swap..

Heres a picture of the car when it ran its best:

I have no clue what happened. The engine was a poorly rebuilt engine with 15000km on it. The car itself has 193000km.
Anyways many problems occured today which may have lead to the rear housing losing compression. Driving home from school the car was running fine with no problems, but when I stoped the car it would stall and the revs would drop.
Took the car to the shop I work at and tested for any vacumn leaks and found none. Played witht he Idle screw and the TPS to get the car to keep a steady idle but that did not work. Eventually I gave up and decided to go home, upon driving the car out of the garage the car was sluggish. would not rev above 3k and would stall. Right away the symptons of a blown engine with no rear rotor came in place. Now the car is half dead.
Saturday friend is comoing down with a compression test to determing if the rear housing is actually gone.

yeah mine with a chip of one apex seal on the front rotor reved all the way.....what kinda shop did you take it to? Id check the timing and pull off the exhaust manifold and get a mirror to look at the apex seals them selves through the exhaust ports....sound to me like another porblem..

My na revved to redline on the back rotor when I dropped a nut in the front, which screwed it up badly. It sounded like a chopper with the barking exhaust through the HKS mufflers and RB header, bark bark bark like a bridgeport but like 10x the frequency of barks. It ran pretty damn good for being half blown.
The only way you can find out what happened is to disassemble the engine. It is sad, man, and I know how it feels.

Anyways tommorow my friend is coming over with a compression tester and tools to determing if I lost total rear compression. My AFM may have failed or some electrical problem, or someting I might have missed. There are no engine lights so I'm not sure right now whats wrong.
The car starts up, but right away it drops to stall. It has trouble reving up and is slow. The car feels as if my handbrake is up while moving.
What are the syptoms if the AFM is not working?

I dont know a damn thing

Yes thats what an AFM will do when its failed..
since you lost all comp on your rear rotor your car will basically be undrivable. I lost comp on my front rotor (only 75 psi) and i still drive it but it like yours has no idleability and i still have 85 percent power.

Yo,
It would have never blown if it had the original NA hood. You put a TII hood on an NA it's gonna think it's a TII and *poof*! There goes your motor...
Bummer to hear about it...I just got past the Number of the Beast on my car...66,666 miles on the odo and I was keeping my fingers crossed. *grin*
Good luck on the swap.
