I am brewing up a turbo project. need some input.
i was thinking about having some sort of turbo project whether it be put my turboII drivetrain in my GXL or buying a rough turboII. i'll probably just end up buying an S4 turboII, the the drivetrain swap into my 91 gxl is still an option, i just like the turboII option better so i'll still have one dependable car and one project car
Here are the things i have in mind. i need some idea of prices on the stuff that i am not sure about (like on the hybrid turbo)
1. hybrid turbo. t04 60-1 compressor with stock hot side.
(400-500 bucks?)
2. 720cc secondary injectors (do i need bigger primaries as well with this turbo setup?)
(around 200 bucks)
3. apexi SAFC
(around 300 bucks)
4. a nice greddy or apexi boost gauge
(150 bucks?)
5. starion or NPR front-mount intercooler and pipes bent at the muffler shop
(350 bucks?)
i could use some input guys, i'll have money this summer and want to have a cool turbo project (unlike the last one that was forced to be my daily drive as well)

I've seen some new T04Bs on eBay for ~425...granted you'll have to spend an extra 250ish for a manifold.
Why not look into the Microtech LT-8 EMS? There's a group buy going on now and getting it for ~595 (585, whatever...)...You'll have TONS more control over EVERYTHING than just with a SAFC.
I'd wonder about the load that you'd see before the secondaries come on...
The IC from a powerstroke diesel seems to be a good option as well...don't forget money for couplers. How are you going to route this to the throttle body?

the powerstroke intercooler is massive, i want one a little smaller. and im not gonna be able to afford the microtech probably. i'll be stretchin it to be able to buy a project car and turbo.
You'll be rebuilding the turbo yourself?
If so, start calling some diesel truck places and see who they contract their turbo rebuilding work out to so you can get it balanced before you put in the hybrid...

I did The NA/T2 conversion on a S4 and it's not as hard as everyone says it is. I heard the S5 conversion is retarted easy, and a S5 turboII is much more desireable than an S4. Whar kind of condition is your S5 NA in? Kevin Landers has a few flywheel back truboII drive trains for sale....

my NA is in great condition. just two dents on the drivers side and some bald rear tires. heres a shot of the passenger side. i resprayed the center caps so it looks a LITTLE better.
i considered the turboII swap thing from landers, but how much does it all cost? the problem with that is i would have to buy a turboII engine AND drivetrain to do that swap. and i lose the reliability of my pretty 91 GXL. how much does everything cost buying a rebuilt turboII engine and used drivetrain from landers and having him put it in?
