hylomar replacement?? help

hylomar replacement?? help
cant find any hylomar anywhere. ive been told i can use small amounts of silicone instead. any place that might sell hylomar that i havent checked ie all autopart stores. would i be ok with silicone ?

Yeah, the "Hylomar" sold now sucks compared to the good stuff. Luckily, I have like 20 tubes of the good stuff which I bought when I heard rumors of its demise.
Anyway, Vaseline is an acceptable substitute. Mainly the Hylomar just holds stuff in place. If you have pitted areas you need to seal, then a very light coating of RTV or another non-hardening sealant (aircraft sealant) will work.

It will be fine. The real difference is that the new stuff is a pain in the *** to work with. I don't think it's functionally different in any significant way. I've so far done two engines with the new stuff and they are both fine.
