Question how to tow an FC

Hey,
My tranny and D.shaft are out and sitting in my hatch, I need to tow the car about 200 miles to get it fixed up. My rear end has an LSD so will towing it with the rear tires down hurt the rear end, or should I get all 4 wheels off the ground?
( I already searched)

You should be fine. Most people recommend removing the driveshaft due to bearings in the tranny, nothing to do with the rear end.

Where you taking the car to exactly? East? NW?

Be careful with that peice of @$#%@ uhaul 2 wheel dolley thing... i towed my car with it, and the straps failed and my car went off and hit a guard rail... luckily it was covered by insurance.. and we were only going 15 miles an hour, but still... Stop and double check the straps every half an hour... thats what i did after it happened and got a new trailer... I hate uhaul, and dont reccomend it to anyone.

I was under the impression the LSD couldn't be towed on the ground, even if the shaft is disconnected.

Why not? There is nothing that would wear anymore than driving it. The LSD only acts when there is a difference in wheel speed. And even then, it it just like normal driving to the diff/LSD.

I towed my TII from Indianapolis IN to Battle Creek MI with the driveshaft connected and it runs like a charm. I used a 2 wheel dolley from U-Haul and had no problems whatsoever, even doing 60-65mph on the freeway.

yeah. That was probably one of the few times in your life you'll drive something with more problems than the RX-7; a u-haul truck

Definately want to make sure everything is tight. The tow dolly I used had an addtional set of saftey chains that I fastened around the suspension just incase something came loose (dolly was not a u-haul).

Have to admit I towed 70-75 mph from Dayton OH to saginaw michigan. Not sure of the miles but it took a few hours. Also took my truck plenty of time to get to 70 MPH.

...

I towed my 89 from austin to dallas with the back wheels on the ground. First time is was fine, second time i ground my tranny into pieces and had to replace the whole thing. I would recommend being safe and either disconnecting the drive shaft, or getting all four wheels off the ground. All over some alternator problems

I'm getting ready to tow mine about 400 miles, the difference between a full trailer and a dolley is 10 dollars a day! not worth my time to remove the driveshaft.

Never understood how towing it is anyworse than coasting with the clutch popped, other than the fact that the oils nice and warm. Full trailer for me, 500 miles

I towed a 68 charger from NJ to IL on one of those 2 wheel dollys, they're fine if they're in good condition and you use them correctly. Hell, I was going 80 on the PA turnpike!

I have my car towed with a flatbed. It's too damn low for anything else around here. Incidently, I use up all my freaken passes every year.
