how to tell if stationary gears are worn?
The gear teeth start out with a perfectly symetrical profile.
Most of the wear is on only one side of the gear tooth.
It the tooth profile looks the slightest bit asymetrical, it's worn.
Also you can measure the ID of the gear at different points to see if it's out of round.
