Cool How the Rotary Works

I don't know if this has been posted before or not, but for all the Noobs and the non-Noobs who just aren't sure, this is maybe the greatest explanation of it all on planet earth.

Hey, the animated thing on this page:
http://travel.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine3.htm

It shows a peripheral ported engine, cool.

Ok, I got a question as I am a n00b myself....

In that VERY cool animation movie posted, is the 5th and 6th port ( I think thats what that is ) the 2 little holes that open in the intake stroke that spits in a little extra fuel/air? The car I'm planning on purchasing, the ports are stuck, so how much HP does that mean Im gonna be losing? (89 GTU N/A)

Thanks for the vids, very cool.

Auxiliary ports is the technically correct term. You'll lose quite a bit of power, so fix them. Either the air pump is dead (unlikely), the solenoid is blown (possible), or the sleeves/actuators are stuck (likely) and need to be cleaned and unstuck.

Depending if they are stuck open or closed.
If stuck open, you loose about 5hp @3K
If stuck closed, you loose about 15hp @7K.

On your series 5 N/A, the port actuators push to open, and only under high load.
To test them, I teed in a pressure gage and blew into the tube to check at what pressure they opened. Then I routed the tube inside with the gage on the end, and did a test drive to see when they opened.

Before you pull the whole intake, try penetrating oil (like PB Blaster) where the actuator shaft goes into the LIM.
Then see if you can work it loose.
