How to remove rusting metal trim on door?

How do you remove the metal trim at the start of the window on the outside of the door? Mine used to be black but is now peeling and rusting. Id like to take it off and i think all you have to do is pry it up but im scared im gonna dent something so some help/tips/info would be appreciated.

that trim piece is very prone to rusting.
take the mirrow off, then there is a screw there to get the trim piece off.
I've had succes before painting it. pry all old plastic trim off and sand down to metal, then prime and then put a color coat on. mine turned out good, much better than spending $80

I tried this once... but the damned trim still would not come off. All I managed to do was chip the paint on the door.

I just pulled the cracked plastic off with pliers (with the trim obviously still on the door), then sanded it down. Of course it rusted again within 3 days, but at least it's smooth (sort of ).

Just pry them up, they will come off. Mine used to be all rusty and peeling too, so I just took mine off and cut off most of the plastic with a razor blade, sanded and painted gloss black. This was like 6 years ago and they still look great.

The area where the mirrors bolt and line up are exactly the same. Therefore no mods.

Personally I think that the $80 was worth it for the window seals. I've never seen a 7 around here that's had nice ones, and it was the the only thing on my car rusting. It looks great now and I'm happy with my purchase.

I agree, you can never get the old seals looking like the new ones. The new ones are plastic now so they wont rust, best money I ever spent next to getting new FTP lenses. Its not alot of money at all and the new parts look sooooooo nice.
Dont say you can use the money for better things for the car, because $80 dont go far, especially when you have done so much on the car already.

80 bucks for that ****? you have got to be out of your god damned mind. Im getting a WHOLE CAR, and TWO MOTORS for only 350 bucks.... i dont think that those little cosmetic only peices are worth that money.

Just take them off sand them down and paint them, no more phony looking plastic or rusty peices for a fraction of the cost of new ones.

Well i took them off today. No screw or anything like the above mentioned i just pryed from the inside of my door for about a minute and found that 6 little white clips hold it in. It was really easy so yay time to paint.

lol, im sure those cars are show room condition too!

If they were $10 people here would still bitch. When you have your car for 6 years with those rusty things on it, and then you buy new ones for a lousy $80, which is like 4 tanks of gas, its well worth the money at that point.

i'll be gettings new ones. mine aren't rusting yet but the actual seal for the outside of the window gets brittle as well. I would rather have that new seal.

I thought I remembered Mazdatrix selling aftermarket window trim made of rubberized plastic years ago. They were like $15.
I know they don't carry them anymore cause I looked on their site a few months ago when mine finally rusted. They are no longer on the website. ANy truth to this, or am I dreaming?

Yeah people seem to forget that when that $40 piece of trim goes bad it allows water to get into the door, which will speed up the bottom of the doors rusting. Your lucky if the bottom of the doors arent rusting a bit now by the drain holes in the door jamb. Not to mention ruin your speakers and window switches.
The new ones are plastic now and wont rust

First put the window down. You can get a better grip on the trim. Pull up and towards the back of the car. Pull from further back on the trim and it may sort of swing up while the front is still attached. You'll notice that the part furthest to the front of the car goes under a peice of plastic. You have to slide it out from under it. One of mine came out by hand by pulling hard, the other I used needle-nose plyers.

Try painting them with rubberized undercoating. It is thick stuff and looks really good. Like oem,.
