how to remove a-pillar cover?

Any tips on removing the a-pillar cover without breaking it? I just got a gauge pod for my TII and tried to remove the original cover to drill the holes but its so brittle that i'm afraid of cracking it. I noticed as i was trying to pull it, some little crack marks beggining to form by where the little push things(secure the cover to the pillar) are.

Thanks

Carlos

I just worked slowly and carefully. If you can get some type of lubricant back there, it may help too.

Put a screwdriver right ON the clips basically so the force goes right to them, not the plastic piece itself. There are two or three plastic guide posts as well that you will need to be careful of that must come out perpendicular to the A-Pillar. I just did this TODAY myself. I ended up breaking the A-pillar but not in the process of removing it. IF you do break it, you can glue it solidly back together with standard cyanoacrylate plastic glue (model cement, etc). Hold for 30 sec, etc...

I used a dremel tool + drill bit to drill the holes for the pod's snap fasteners so I had more control over the plastic and the drill than when using a regular heavier pistol-grip drill. Also, don't breathe the fumes! ABS plastic fumes are highly toxic.

Good luck!

ABS cement for pipes (found in any home supply store, like Home Despot) works better, than model cement.

Mine was already broken when I got the car.
The S4 pod fits pretty well & covers the break repair.
I think there were 3 clips across the top & 2 or 3 more down the A-pillar. (I only have 1 now)

thanks for the replys. I hate how brittle those plastic parts are. I'll be as gentle as possible with it. You guys mentioned 3 clips, but i only see two (the drawing). Where are the other hidden ones?

Thanks

That's part of the reason why I got electric gauges, despite the cost. Less to go wrong IMO. Of course some people say that the electronic transducer = more to go wrong but I'm an electrical engineer so... electrical is better in my world.

Was that a slip Mark? Or on purpose? Just curious because my friend owns that website.

You could also use electrical tape like the guy who had the car before me did...

Hey Steve,

no it was a deliberate slap at the big "home supply" company that ripped me off for $600.

Lol, they filed a suit against my friend for trademark infringement after he put up this website: www.homedespot.com To my knowledge they eventually forgot about him, but he was famous for a little bit. Haha.

I just put s4 pillars and some interior panels on my s5. The roofliner is shorter on s5 cars, so some of it has gaps, and the pieces only share like 3 mounting points. Basically my interior looks like **** and im whining about it. Oh well.

I ran mine from the engine towards the driver side tower, then down under above the fender well cover into the foot area of the driver and then behind the A-Pillar into the Boost guage.
