how to remove double side bolts from block?

I'm in the process of finishing up my Emissions removal, just have to fab up my block off plates from some sheet metal...

i was wondering how do I remove the double sided bolts that used to hold the BAC and ACV and stuff on? i got one turning with a pair of pliers, but it only seems to turn about 90* each way that gets stuck again...

The "double sided bolts" are called studs. You can try using two nuts to remove it - out both nuts on one end of the stud and use two wrenches to tighten them against each other. Use wrench on the bottom nut to then try and loosen the stud from the block.

Various places sell "stud removers" . These are usually some sort of cam device that clamps to the stud to get it to turn. They will often mess up the threads of the stud, so beware when you use them.

does it still come out like a regular thread? or is it backwords threaded to counter act the other side of the thread being loosened?

vise grips work on the smaller studs but for studs like for the water pump housing and exhaust manifolds i usually double nut them, works best.
