How to prevent this type of rust?

Someone posted this pic in another thread and I'm just wondering what I'd need to do to prevent that from happening to my rocker panels?

These cars are at minimum 28 years old, max at 33. Your car already has it, more than likely. Most cars that have been in the south their entire life, most likely wont have this problem.

I dont remember where I saw it, but somebody used aftermarket Miata parts and covered up the rocker panel/pinch rails up. Rust is rust, most of the time it is pointless to repair it, ESPECIALLY on rocket panels.

Yeah, make sure drain holes are open and if you live in an area with snow/salt make sure you wash the undercarriage as necessary.
