How to pass emissions?
Then you dont have a Variable resistor. Your just going to have to lower the idle using the blind cap on your TB. Make sure your split air pipe is attached to your Cat.
what about passing in CA? any ideas? I'm hoping they aren't training referees to spot missing emissions components, like the air pump for example, or aftermarket ones, like a fmic. I even heard they are bringing the dyno in. thats what I get for living in san francisco.
I passed today....woohoo...first time passing the first try.
Sorry to jack your post..but this is what i did...
I grabbed a bottle of methal hydrate and poured half a litre into 1 bar level of gas, and passed. I also note that Iam using two rear rotor housings in the engine. There was an issue regarding ports in the housings for emmisions....besides the point.....
After failing countless times every year. I will use this method from now on.

Much like the ATF trick, I believe it probably screws you up in the end, but for those who have had serious problems passing emissions, it has worked. Not saying that it is a good idea, but it worked.
my FC passed w/ flying colors in DE. afterward though, i found out that the split air pipe hose was broken and disconnected right before the cat. so i assume the AVC and air pump were useless at that point. also both cats had some rattling going on in there. when i took em off, i could see chunks of the cat broken off...i eventually gutted them. so i passed the sniffer w/ a disconnected split air pipe and 2 busted up cats. go figure...

Hey Jetfire how you like your 2.5RS? I got one also a 2000 model.

Not to hijack much, but I had a 2000 2.5 RS, also!
I loved that thing. But, I had to sell it to move out of Mom's house.Anyway, this thread has been helpful. I'm currently looking at getting an 88GXL, and my only worry is emissions. My last RX7 would never pass...so I'm worried about that happening again with a new one. MA has pretty strict emissions standards.
Hey JGard18 you have the same name on www.I-club.com or WWW.nasioc.com?
When I tested mine, I passed with really good numbers. I don't have the paper handy, but with the hydrocarbons I think it was less than one ppm with 15 ppm allowable. On top of this I think my cat is clogged, so I'm saving up for a bonez superflo.

My car passed emissions last year with a single high flow cat, and N1 copies. I think as long as the air pump, vaccume lines, and all solonoids hooked up, you should be able to pass with a fairly healthy engine.
I noticed a bunch of burned vaccume lines and replaced them, totally linear acceleration and no backfires when I let off the gas... damn, time to disconnect everything again.
