Smile How often does your RX-7 have something wrong with it?

I've had my car for only 3 months, and my car already gave me lots of problems.
I had to:
-get a new radiator $200
-some coolant leak $70
-New battery $40
-Some more hoses $160

Man, this is a lot for a 16 years old guy with no job! Man, if it continues to break down I'll be forced to just let the car on the driveway!

Yo,

Well, ya gotta remember your car is old. It's going to need those things, but it's not going to be a consistent thing. You aren't going to be replacing hoses every 15,000 miles kinda thing.

When I first got my car I replaced all the belts, O2 sensor, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, and that's about it. I've had it for almost three years and the only problem is tranny fluid getting into the shifter. That's it. I just suck the fluid out every 8 months, and go about my business. *grin*

Looks pretty sweet. On both 7s I replaced most hostes, belts, plugs, & wires when I bought them.

It's worth not having to worry about old / worn stupid stuff like belts.

Ok thanks.
Now I just hope that my engine won't die soon. I got 215,000 miles but I dunno if the engine has been rebuilt before.

I gotta get a job...

If you are talking about stuff that went bad, this is what I have in 80K miles in 23 months

1. Front calipers
2. Wiper switch
3. Lightbulbs all over the place
4. Antenna

Thats the only stuff that broke on my car
i got a 90

I agree. These cars are old, and it depends on what kind of shape it was in when you bought it.

I bought my 88 RX-7 new. When the engine got tired (but still ran reliably) 146,000 miles and 10 years later I began my 20B project. In that time, though, the only unscheduled maintenance was a thermostat, shifter bushings, antenna, oil filter baseplate o-rings, and new external seals for the side windows and sunroof from sitting out in the Florida sun the whole time. This is absolutely fantastic considering that my previous car, an 84 Camaro, literally fell apart right when the warranty ran out at 4 years/50,000 miles.

Yeah mazda sits about #3 on the japan overall quality scale and #2 in drivetrain reliability.

Long engine life is standard though - which is good.

I've got 163K on my mazda 929 and it's still going

With those kind of miles I would do the ATF trick to make your engine last longer.

? The only problem I had with my 83 GSL before it started burning coolant was the fuel pump died once, and I had your typical 130K tranny rebuild. It lasted to 184K with no problems. Had my TII for almost 6 months now, and I have only had to replace the TPS.

what do you guys do to your cars?!

I love my 7's. The only problems I have are normal maintenance stuff- leaky injector @130K miles, brake pads/rotors wearing out, belt, and bulbs. Just the typical normal maintenance stuff. It starts up all of the time and runs great!

The only real problem I have with my Rx is that I keep breaking tranny every year. However, the reason for this is that I have an unsprung\bronze clutch, and since I am poor too, I keep replacing the tranny with used ones

Regular maintenace shouldn't be count as problems, expect to replace soon too all of the belts, brake pads, interior plastics, etc.

YEAH, I KNOW DUDE, it was when i first got the car,and i wasnt really up on the aftermarket at that time,so its all straight from the factory,i have the heavy duty suspension,so i also have the big brake upgrade from the factory!!!! its cool it stops me where i want it 2. another reason i havnt done a brake upgrade is because i wanna put rims on it so i figure when i do that, ill find out what brakes i can squeeze in!!

Yo,

Yeah Felix, I know there is. But is there supposed to be so much that it squirts like a grapefruit when you shift? I didn't think so biznatch! I talked to Rick over at Rotary Performance Pleasanton, he says there's a seal that goes bad inna tranny. Lots of drag type launches makes the tranny oil slosh back into the gearshift housing. I'm not going to drop the tranny to fix it, just get a straw and suck out the extra, slap it together, and I'm done for another 6-8 months!

Yup, my friend just traded in his 929 with 230k for a 2000 Milennia S, the 929's are well known for lasting over 230+ miles.

Man, you're talking about 10+ year old cars!&nbsp Mazda is NOT Toyota!

If your car is a manual transmission, count on replacing the clutch hydarulics REAL SOON too.

This is the reason why I recommend having at least a grand over buying a used FC for the first time...

I got my 89GXL from my dad. Put 3000 into it for the rebuild and intake exaust injectors, some interior parts and your set. For the electrical parts just replace the wiring harness with a used mazda one and it should fix your electrical.. If your smart u wont need to spend much at all to fix anything in your car. Mine has no probs except for the brake parking brake light staying on.

my 86 almost never broke on me. My 89 broke down about one a month, but nothing serious. It never stranded me.
