Not if you have an open exaust, i can hear mine start to hiss at like 2.5k or -10vac on my boost gauge. Youd be amazed how easy it spools with an open exaust...

bet you there's a few dudes saying: "i'm on boost 24/7!"

rotaries drink! once a day is good enough, unless i'm at the illegals where it's customary to spool before you launch!

When I drive my 626, I get on the turbo about once every couple of minutes. I don't take the engine past 3500 RPMs, but I certainly like to hear the whine of that snail under the hood, and feel the resulting kick in the pants.

The RX-7 receives the same amount of time spent under boost as with the 626. The '7 also has considerably less lag than the 626, which makes it rather hard to stay out of the turbo.

Every gear, all the time. Not to oblivion but enough to hear it and feel it in every gear. Unless i'm on the way home from the bar, then it's granny time.

I feel your pain Tuesday is the target date for me. Ive heard a lot about your swap as well, good luck!

As for the open exhaust and spool time, my friend, after putting on a RB turbo back exhaust (S4) it took longer to reach full boost. It was at approx. 2300-2500RPM before and after it jumped to 3800-4000. So im guessing this is not the norm as compared to some other T2 owners?

Definitely. The turbo puts large amounts of stress on the internal engine components, by creating extra heat, wear and pressure. Why do you think NA engines tend to last considerably longer than turbo engines?

I don't think its necessarily that great of a difference. Fact is, most people with turbo vehicles tend to beat on them and run them leaner after modding. You know every one of my friends that have turbo vehicles(couple TT Z's, a VR4, etc.) none of them have even a fuel pump? None have fuel controllers, larger injectors, nothing for fuel or safety. They do have boost controllers and down pipes and intakes though. Most people don't even know that when you add more boost, you need to add more fuel as well.

BUT, you are right that NA engines should last longer, but not that much longer if taken care of and modded correctly or not at all.

boost everytime it's warm'd up, every gear and every where, i am a damn boost addict.

full throttle you should be hearing boost at 2500 full should be 3500. Then runs out of breath around 6000.

Im amazed that one of the options was boosting the car once a week. Are you serious? The 13bt relies heavily on boost to get any power at all. A NA is faster than a non-boosting turbo II.

If you drive your car around for a week intentionally not getting into boost, there's gonna be geos passing you up.

Geez, when I drove my TII once the oil temp was up it was on

I HATE it when I was running late and the car was cold. I just didn't have the heart to abuse it when it was cold.

It is such a great feeling when you have, PIMP

Manifold
