How often to clean K&N Filter thats exposed?
I have a CAI that places the filter right in the front nose in front of the oil cooler, basicaly making the filter visible from the front of the car if you are lying on the ground.
The filter is a K&N... I know these are only supposed to be cleaned every 50k...
I was wondering if I should have a closer cleaning interval since my filter is in direct contact with the highspeed outside air and with rainwater (not that I drive in the rain when i can avoid it... but sometimes it has to happen)
Also, those with any type of K&N, how often do you clean yours?

isnt cleaning it every month a bit excessive if its supposed to last 50k miles...
i also thought i read that it filters better when it has some dirt on it, so it would make me think that over cleaning it would lead to poorer overall filtration

K&N filters work better with some dirt in them than no dirt at all.
30K to 50K is more than enough miles. Even my Tacoma when I use it in major off roading only gets cleaned every 25K miles.

becareful when you are cleaning your cone not to put on an excessive amount of oil cause it can get into the air flow sensor (unless you got a stand alone like microtech or something) and it can dmg all the sensitive parts in it.

I've only had mine on for a few thousand, but I've heard other say between 15 and 20k. Sounds good to me, it's not like a recharger kit is expensive or hard to do. My filter looks like it's still new after about 5k miles.
