i am pretty sure i need new vac lines, my car runs and idles bad except in really cold weather usually. (30 degrees or below)

i usually am pretty comfortable working on my car, i have rebuilt brake callipers and installed my exhaust and stuff like that. but there are so many vacuum lines i dont really have any idea how to tackle that one. i cant see where they all lead etc.

has anyone paid mazda to do it? or have a step by step guide on how to?

You can do it a couple ways.

1. Take one off and immediately replace it. Basically, one by one.

2. Mark them as you go. Such as, put a dot of paint on one end, and a dot on the other where it connects to keep track.

3. Make yourself a chart/drawing.

4. Mark each side with a piece of tape with writing. Such as, put a piece of tape with "1" on it on one side, and another with "1" on it on the other side of where the hose connects.

If you're methodical about it, it will just take some time. Shouldn't be difficult.

I'll throw a tip in there for ya.

since it's cold out, drive the car around a bit to get everything toasty.
it will make removing the ol lines easier.

rest the new lines on the engine or radiator. it will warm them up and make stretching them onto their locations MUCH easier

also, I dont know if there's much you can do for vac line reduction on FC's. but my VR4 LOVED it's vaccume line reduction!

You can remove a hell of a lot of vac lines on the FC, especially the emissions related ones. Search for "rats nest removal"

I'm down to 3 (maybe 4, I forget) vacuum lines.

vac reductions make working under the hood sooo much more pleasurable.
I guess I will have to do it to my FC vert now haven't realy had time to dig around yet

Just removing the ACV and air pump help it drastically. I'm about to do the whole rats nest removal myself along with swapping to an s5 UIM. I've been trying to hunt down a vac leak and it seems like everything I do makes it worse. I just said **** it, I'm going to get rid of as many of the bastards as I can.

i want to clear out as much vacuum lines as possible, but keep it legal for emissions test... how far can i go?

alright i will search for the rats nest removal. i dotn have emissions so no worries there.

so i dont need my airpump for anything else besides emissions right? i have full rb exhuast and that is all i need to open the 5th/6th ports right?

Depends on what state you live in...California has strict emmisions laws...and others like Arizona are more lenaniant.

but maybe you can give some pointers to what can be done like say if i was living in California?

i'm getting sick of people saying "just remove the rats nest!"

1) it doesn't make your car run any better
2) it will make passing emissions in most states a complete PAIN IN THE ******* ***!
3) yes it does make working on your engine easier but refer to #2 if you live in an emission testing area.
