how much to replace engine?
Hi, I just want to know about how much it would be to replace the motor in my 1990 RX-7 Convertible. It's actually running fine right now, but there's 136,000 miles on it, and I'm don't see to many high mileage RX-7's out there with original motors. I just want to anticipate what it will cost to get a rebuilt or new motor when she does decide to go. Thanks for your help.

They really depend on level of build and ammount of new parts used. Usually a lower level rebuild will go for $2000 or so and a higher level rebuild can go for $8000 for a PP N/A Check out Mazdatrix.com for some prices. They are in the higher range, but their work is excellent.

I may be the exception to your observation that not many original engines still running. Bought a new 90 GTU n/a. Replaced original engine at 239,000 miles. Changed oil every 1,500 miles and used Prolong every other oil change.

Pineapple Racing. Obviously I am biased, since Rob Golden is a friend of mine. However, his reputation is well known in the industry. When I first met Ari Yallon, owner of Rotary Performance in Garland, Texas, his first words to me were "You know Rob Golden?!? He's the MAN!." A better unsolicited testimonial I have not heard Also, if you like anything on my site Rotary Engine Illustrated, then you owe a debt of gratitude to Rob for helping me figure this **** out. I knew virtually nothing about rotary engines before meeting him....

How reasonable would you guys say it is to drive my car cross country to have the engine replaced? I mean, obviously, there's going to be wear on the car... but most of that is going to be on the engine anyway. The body's in great condition, but it does have 105k miles on it. It's just that most of the best rotary places are very remote for me. I live in Chicago. My car's on its second engine and that came from Nebraska. What do you suggest?
