A Jspec engine is like a box of chocolates. I think you can see where I'm going with that.

Most have been sitting for years in a junkyard, so you might get one that has excellent compression and is capable of handling mods, or you might get one that has weak soft seals due to sitting. They are almost always perfect cores for rebuilding, but not always perfect engines right off the pallet.

if you want power then its best for you to rebuild the motor whether its a j-spec or not. theres no difference anyway.

anywhere from 0-600hp.

0- as mentioned above you might not even get compression

600hp- You get a HUGE turbo and all the fuel you need along with timing and standalone and all the crap you need to make it work. You WILL get 600HP but not for very long.

I think the questions you should be asking are:

1. What are the first things I need to do to ensure my JDM motor is in good shape and REMAINS in good shape for future power upgrades.

2. What do I want to do with the car? Auto-X, street racing, drag, drift, daily driver, rolling shell? What do you want to do with the car? How much power do you WANT? How much power will you ACTUALLY get??

Not too many people here have gotten close to the 500HP mark but you ARE allowed to dream and hope. Don't worry about the power as much as you should worry about the ENGINE BEING IN DRIVEABLE SHAPE.

the goal is 400 - 450hp Daily drivable in the summer , but also able to crush most cars on the local track
right now the car has 680 secondaries , a S5 turbo (I was told, but I dont know how to check for sure but it pulls 15 psi),RB exaust , and a giant rad ,fcd, and a few other things (also think it has a bigger fuel pump.. but again not sure) it had a microtech before I bought it but he pulled it to put it in his next 7
A friend has a spare engine for a reasonable price , but I dont want to get one and turn around in 6 months and get it ported after I just put it in , if it cant support more power

It won't last long at 15psi that's for sure. Congrats, your intercooler is now an interheater.

well.. I pulled off my intake piping and found coolant at the inlet for my turbo..? I was thinking maybe my turbo cracked or is warped ... or something.. anyways I think I'm going to pull it off and look ... do I need to remove anything else .. I would prefer to do i without having to take off the IM

I'm looking at buying a TII that the guy runs sometimes at 15psi. It's a JDM motor with no emissions and a chipped ECU and he's said it runs circles around his friend's TII that has the same mods. What might running at 15psi frequently do? Also, at what point will you actually reach 15psi or is that a tuning thing?
