how much for a long block?

my friend is offering 280 for a long NA block. heres the deal

everything except two injectors and a tps (includes uncut harness). it has 140k on everything and he only pulled it because he thought it was drinking water. when pulling it he said that the water leak could have been due to the leaking in the heatercore (or something like that). its been sitting for a month, the most two.

if i buy i am going to rebuild for an n/a turbo. i have about 1200 in my saving but i plan on doing it as a side project when i have free time. i want a small project.

so is it worth it? what should i look for to know if its worth it? or should i keep looking for a turbo block? i have a 90gxl now with 80ks all original.

you could probobly get your money back just by parting out the longblock. on the assumption that everything is still usable some ballpark pricing...

housing $50-100
iron $40-70
transmission $100
LIM $50
UIM $40

and you already got your money back!

The difference between NA and T2 shortblocks is mostly (or only, not completely sure) in the housings and the rotors(which just have slightly higher compression). The longblocks are very different so you would have to make it an NA turbo, or get all the T2 longblock stuff like tranny, LIM, UIM, exhaust mani, etc, etc...

so i got the engine, and everything for a complete swap for 280 today, i hope it was a good investment. i mostly purchased it for spare parts and to gain some experience on the engine.

the guy told me that it has 140k and was running fine except there was a water leak somewhere. he said it never over heated but he had a spare engine so he swapped it.

my question is, if there was a leak, or a slight overheating problem, would that eliminate any chances of a rebuild? i am assuming that an engine cannot be rebuilt only if the apex broke and messed up the internals.

when i stripped it to the core today and looked at it through the exhaust, i check that all the seal were still there. i turned it at the flywheel and the pulley and both the front and real had all equal pulses. only the rear sound different like a weaker pulse but they were all the same.

my question is will this need a full rebuild or just and overhaul? i assume i will need to take it apart more to find out for sure but i just want to know what i am getting into. thanks
