How much damage before FC totalled?
On the way to work yesterday an old lady turned into the side of my Rx-7. I haven't talked to her insurance company yet and I am not sure what to expect. I checked the "blue book" for my car and it was from $800-$2000. Made me wonder if they will try and total my car from a little dent. Anyone have any experience with that?
I'll try to post pics of the damage. I should get a copy of the police report tommorow then I can start the insurance game

Give the car a quick wash, and make it look pretty!
The adjuster will have to see the car before they decide if it will be repaired or totalled. My car (86 GXL) got hit by a snow plow while it was in storage. By the book value it would have been a write-off, but the adjuster had to see to confirm it. The car was freshly washed and waxed as it was in storage - so as soon as the adjuster saw the car, they decided to fix it.
$1800 in dammage paid out with no questions asked.
You should be fine with that little damage. It sucks nonetheless!

Wow she just hit you in the wrong place bud sorry. You will need to replace that 1/4 panel which requires a lot of work (cutting, welding, smoothing, priming, and painting). I would not be suppressed if they try to total your car.
Your best bet (if you do not want them to total it) would be to gather all the receipts for your car (showing value). Also get ads and prices for other rx-7's that are for sale in your area that are generally as nice as yours. This shows them how much it would cost to replace your car. Cause it might be higher than KBB. Get your guns loaded with ammo and be prepared. Don’t let them push you around and don’t be intimidated, stand up for your right to get your rotary on .
Insurance companies suck and they push and push you just got to be prepared and stand up for your car. Good luck with you journey.

I don't want it totaled out. I've had the car for about 10 years now and have actually started rebuilding stuff and making it nice again. For what they'd give me I'm sure I couldn't get another rx-7 in near as good condition.
What a headache... Never had to deal with this kind of crap before.

here is something that may look
If they do not total it out, claim that since they repaint part of the car, it wont match right (because youre really ****) and because of this, you want the whole car repainted so the paint looks nice and matched.. I dont know if it works, but worth a shot
If you were considering getting the car repainted, now is definantly the time considering they are going to have to sand, paint and blend part of the car anyways. It would obviously be more to repaint the whole car, but its probably less than you might think compared to what insurance would give you.
I had about $1200 worth of damage on my car.. One door and a fender on the other side had to be repainted (it was a parking lot fender-bender and a break-in). It was going to be ~1200 to fix the dents, sand, and repaint those areas. It was about 2400 to repaint the entire car, and remove EVERY dent, ding scratch etc. I feel it was completely worth shelling out $1200 extra to get my entire car repainted and I would without a doubt do it again looking back. new paint makes such a big difference

If I can remeber the damage has to be around 75% or more the value of the car.
I.E. Your car is worth $1000 and the estimated damage is $800, then it would be a total loss. Then you shouls have the option of buying it back for around $200.
