Unhappy How much am I gonna need to do to beat an A4?

How much am I gonna need to do to beat an A4?
89 GX model with NOTHING done to it yet...
This came to my attention tonight when my buddy showed up in his new car.... a 98 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro... From what I have heard it runs the 1/4 in 15.9.... now I have also heard the s5 ran the 1/4 in 16.0... so what am I gonna need to do to keep up/beat him?

(by the way... my buddy is fawkin 18... and he's paying for the car... ...for the next 5 years.... (boy, it's nice not to have to make payments for the rest of my life.... my car was cheap ))

18 and paying for an A4? I bet they saw him coming.. 50% APR or something Hell, I waited until I was 26 before buying my first car.

Do it from a roll, and I think you've got a chance at kicking him down. AWD is tough to beat from a launch if he's willing to run it like he stole it.

26K at 18 years old.. That's a recipe for bad credit when he's 30.

LOL If this kids 18, I wish him good luck with the payments. I think that you need a K&N intake or HKS Super Flow & an Apexi Dual N1 Exhaust. You should be good to go. I'm glad I didn't have to pay forever for my car too. 400 bucks...a good deal for a car I got from a shop that import engines & a good car that run down single turbo Supra's.

I dont think it would take much with an ok running engine. My friend has a 1.8T A4 also, I think its 00' model. I have a 87 pretty much base (no power windows, locks, steering, no air pump and removed the 6 port system) We went from a dead start. He dropped it at 6k and I had an awesome launch dropping it at about 3600-4000. We both were dead even the complete way through (door to door) till about 90 when we let off. I was really disappointed because I was expecting to destroy him based on past performance. Im not sure whats causing my inconsistent results. But im sure if my car was running up to par I woulda beaten him rather then settling for a tie.

You can't - dont even bother.
If you're going to argue that you can do unlimited mods and he has to stay stock, I find this scenario very hard to believe.

An simple ECU reprogram pushes the Audi into the 200hp territory.&nbsp With the proper bolt-on mods (and ECU reprogram), it's already into the 300hp range.

You got no chance.&nbsp It's about 15 years more in technology, turbo'd, AWD(?)...

The Audi's a pretty heavy car. And as far as stock for stock, id go with the FC.

How about my N/A vs. a 2002 A4 with the V6 in it? My best friend's older brother just got one. Bone stock, and he wants to race sometime. He has WAY more torque, but I think my acceleration could take him. Any ideas?

Open your exhaust, run headers an intake and then go with a 50 shot wet system, Heck even wire your 5/6th ports open. This would be the cheapest i think. You've got less power but a weight advantage. It's easy to bog a launch on a vehicle with AWD ( I have a WRX ) SO unless he knows that particular spot on the road, he could easily Bog and **** it up. Stock for Stock.........you're screwed.

Forgot to post my sig I have all of the above plus, clutch, weight reduction (no a/c or p/s) zero emissions, VDI in high, intake w/ air box, and TB mod (I know I am forgetting something...) So basically, I will win.

you are right ted, but i don't know how many mods this kid will be doing considering he's 18 paying a car payment that high. does your friend have a good job will he have lots of extra cash to do mods? is he even into moding his car? if he's going to mod it ted is completely right, but if he won't have the money for a while well then just do basic mods and whoop the crap out of him untill he's done paying that sucker off.

I disagree with Ted on this one. The Audi A4 Turbo is tough off the line, but you could take him on the high end with the basic mods: Intake and Exhaust...

I ran a stock Audi A4 on the Interstate about two weeks ago. We were running up a 10% grade. We were side by side doing 65. I saw him downshift and start to pull on me so I dropped to 3rd and wound it out to 8000. The audi was about 4 car lengths in front of me at this time. By the time I Shifted to 4th and I was gaining. (3 car lengths) About 115 MPH I was passing the Audi. 130 mph and he was in my rear view and I shifted into 5th.

Granted I have headers, exhaust, and a fresh 91 ported engine but I had no problem with the Audi A4T.

RETed:damn, thats depressing... lol... like it's gonna keep me from trying though... He's not gonna be able to afford many mods, especially when he heads off to school.... (I'm about to head off for university this fall too, but I'm leaving my car behind... )

wozzoom: interesting that you pull away at 130mph...they are electronically limited to ~125mph!! lol

They're not limited so that's very possible.

Auto, where in Ontario are you?

I think he's saying that the Audi is.. Since the speedo is not electrical, it's not governed.

Hey rico, is your gearing stock? I checked the gearing on a stock GXL (oh yea, yours is a GTU right?) and it is at 133 at 5600RPM in 5th.

Silkworm: some factory literature for the A4 states that it is electronically limited at ~200km/h

Damn Swede: do you know where Peterborough is? 'cause I'm really close to there... just outside of Lakefield actually....

Argh.. That's what you get for writing stuff late at night.

I'm sure the audi is probably limited.

My statement was supposed to have said that I thought whoever it was, was saying that the audi was limited. However, because the FC has a mechanical speedo, there is no way for the ECU to know how fast you're going.

silkworm: ic... understood... now... .... It was me who commented on the audi being electronically limited initially, meaning that it would stop pulling at 125mph... meaning that any un-limited car (The FC for example... ) would pull away as it passed 125mph....

...hmm... this just gave me a good idea as to how I can win...

I think the ECU can guess when it sees 7500RPM in 5th that you're going DAMN fast
