How many of you ACTUALLY want a 3rd gen?

I've worked on both, there is a bit of difference. The biggest problem with the third gen is the crappy twin turbos other than that there pretty close. I would not give up my FD for the world. Now saying an FC is more fun to drive you must be joking but to work on maebee. All of are opinions are very biased like if you talk to a supra owner there not going to be the rx-7 is the best car in the world. I think most people would get a third gen if money wasn't an option. It all depends on the person.
FDs look like they are suppose to be fast. I won't buy one... actually, the only one that I would buy would be a CYM in mint condition.
I love my FC. I will be burried in it when I die.
FC Brothers Unite !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Down with the FDs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I'm late, but I've actually been pondering this for a couple of days. I would only take an FD as a second car to my TII, everything being equal. If it were an either/or decision, I would stick to the FC.

I've had three rotary's; 1 '88 n/a, 1 '88 TII, 1 '92 FD.
My N/A is the perfect daily driver...never any problems, fast enough for driving around town.
My TII was easy to maintain and easy to work on when something broke. She was BEAUTIFUL...and one hell of a sleeper. Scared my fair share of GT-R's and FD's to say the least.
My FD is FAST in stock form. Upgrading it has been fun, but sometimes I wish I could just have spent my money on making it fast versus preventing it from breaking. Twin turbo's SUCK. But once I go single turbo, 90% of the headache's are gone.
If I had to choose again...I'd KEEP my FD, but also buy an FC.

I've done the FC to FD thing too.
I used to have a Mazda RX-7 LM Edition (MazdaSpeed build No. ****)
It was a great car for those who don't know it, the car comes with the following.......
MazdaSpeed ECU
MazdaSpeed FCD
MazdaSpeed 180 cut removed
MazdaSpeed Adjustable Suspension (By KYB)
MazdaSpeed Adjustable Swaybars
MazdaSpeed 3.9 Diff with some special LSD
MazdaSpeed Short Shift Kit
No ABS
No Power Mirrors
My best E/T was 13.4 at 108mph on Street tyres.
(I'll post a few pics since i'm on the 2nd Gen list)
I have since moved on to a 1992 Mazda RX-7 R1 Type R
With the mods listed below - I don't regret it though I wish I kept it from time to time as it was such a Motorway Killer it never lost a race. The car could hit around 260km/h @ only 5,500 rpm not sure how much more was left in the car I would say close to 270km/h maybe a little more.
But I think the FD is a better car for the fact it is so drivable yet still damn quick for a Jappa sports car.
I would recommend making the jump to a FD but I would love to keep a TII fora Skid car !

Spinx- Sport Compact Car vowed to make a reliable FD, but if you read their update they are now on engine #3 :-( If you go over to the 3rd gen forum you will see engine isn't the only thing on 3rd gens people are having reliability problems w/. I love the looks and performance, but it just wasn't worth it to me anyways...
Personally I think the FD & FC (TII as we don't get N/A's) are as relaible as each other.

It probably all comes down to the "experts" you trust your car with.
If you are competant in doing your own work and if shops that you take it to do know what they're doing, you'll probably end up with an FD that is somewhat trouble free. Now, take the boneheads who "THINK" they're expert rotary mechanics and you'll end up with more problems than you started with. I have seen some pretty PATHETIC work in some cars that a so called "ROTARY SHOP" does here on the island. Most people out there probably could have prevented most of their troubles by having their cars worked on by a competant mechanic. Then again, there are some out there who just neglects the car. I don't have the luxury of taking the car to a Rotary shop since there are NO ** NONE** who will work on these cars. So, I do all the work myself including engine rebuilds and the car hasn't given me any trouble. Oil is changed every 3-4000 miles, coolant changed every 6 months, trans oil changed every 6 months. I know it is a little too much but what will it hurt? Oils are cheap. If I were to get an FD, I'd get a shop manual and yank out all the unnecessary vacuum hoses and change them to silicone. Most FD problems are vacuum related . I had a HARD *** time looking for a vacuum leak on a friends FD.

I'll second that !
But I still really love the FC.
Personally I would love to have a garage like this.
SA22, FC3S, FD3S, 787B, 110S

A Black 94-95 would be nice, but I think I'll either wait to see what vehicles come out in the next 2-3 years or add a Supra TT to my TII.
I'd also take a hard look at a 626MPS if it were produced for US market.

My sentiments exactly. I do think the FD is the best looking Rex on the road with it's italian like design. The FC is more a German like design.
BUT, if you can't get your hair dirty driving it, whats the point.
I will say given the extra weight of a Vert, if I could get FD like horses under my hood without the over engineering of a FD turbo set up (can we can RENISIS?), that would be the ultimate!!!!!

Hey guys I only know J-Spec cars as we get all the good Japa stuff in my country.
Now what is a BPU Supra ? what does BPU stand for ?????
The Supra we have is the RZ Supra 6-Speed T-Turbo ? I know that the US version have a different head and produce around 320-340hp in the US our car are limited to 280hp but most around around 300hp.
RS RX-7 is actually 304hp !
Can't wait to see a RZ Ltd.

If you could do a FD 20B for the same cost as the FC swap, then I'd have probably bought the newer model but since the TII was my first 7 and I have completely went nuts doing just about everything to the interior to make it personal, painting, stripping, etc, as well as all the mods for the 3 rotor... the car will easily smoke almost every other "streetable" 7 out there so why bother buying the more defect-prone car when I already have something much faster?
If I got a good deal, I'd buy one for the old lady and take the turbos off of it so she doesn't wipe it out, I wouldn't have to work on it every week, but she would still enjoy the looks and "speed" for her
Besides, it'd be fun to have (2) 7's to go touring with like all the Harley people do

BPU= Basic performance upgrade
I am jumping in a little late; but the person that started the thread asked who actually wanted a 3rd gen.? he didn't say you had to get rid of your current rx.
I want a 3rd gen. and I will get one down the road someday..but i am content with my current 7.
I think on all the reliability..it just depends on how it was taken care of..mainly driveline..but that also plays a part on the interior side also.
