How many of you are actually running Megasquirt?
Whether it be the Zeal kit or one you fashioned up yourself, TII or NA. Please post the specs!
I'm very interested in getting a Zeal kit, but have not been able to find threads specific to megasquirt reliability and tunability. I know it is a good unit, but I would like to guage how many people out there actually run one. It'd also be nice to get a thread going in here about the Megasquirt, as the MS forum is kinda dead.
I'm especially curious about the self tuning with the wideband, I figure this will be a good function to have as I am still modding my car and don't have the money to keep going to the dyno until I get my final tune.
Who ever's out there with megasquirt, please raise your hand!
Thanks in advance

I don't have MS just yet, but I do have plans to get MegaSquirt 'n Spark hopefully this summer after I do a rebuild of my motor and such. I actually just checked the MS section here for the first time this afternoon and was also sorta sad that there isn't much activity in the forum.
I have an MS that I hand built. While its labor-intensive, you do learn a whole lot about how the board works while putting it together. Quite a few local guys here have one (not many other 7's though) but most of them had "dieselgeek" install it for them.
Tuning is fairly straightforward as long as you research tuning theory fairly in-depth. If you get a zeal-ms I believe they pre-load it with a map that will be good enough to run it, but there needs to be a couple tweaks to the VE table.
You can get a pretty decent map on a street-tune alone, especially if you don't want to drop the dime to go to a dyno. I would advise going to a mustang dyno if/when you do tune it as it is much simpler to tune on.
As far as widebands go, I have an Innovate LC-1 (I got it from diyautotune.com) and I really like it. It's fairly small and easy to tuck the controller somewhere. Just an FYI don't be stupid and mount the WBO2 in the stock mani.. your wallet will thank you.
One nice thing about the megasquirt is the open-source code and ability to create a compatible system. I'm going to be installing a speed sensing circuit on mine, as well as a small Touchscreen for a readout and EGT logging circuit. I already have a launch control circuit and a fan control circuit installed. Other options that are easily added can be found HERE

My mods are in my sig except for the 4 720's and 255lph pump and I'm hoping to run 10 psi and fix my hesitation issues with the MS.
Any more input is definitely welcome!

I've set them up on everything but a 2nd gen. Once you get them running, they're great. The pain in the butt factor is sometimes getting them running...
AutoTune works wonders. I prefer to use it "offline" by datalogging with the wideband then using MSLogViewer to tweak the map. You're still going to need to tune it manually under load. AutoTune is just for light throttle and cruising...

Does it tune on the fly?

biggest problem you will have is that most professional tuners won't mess with it. Steve Kan for example said he wouldn't when I sent him an email about it. Also instructions are not particularly good and are usually aimed at GM applications--at least, in comparison to the AEM EMS instructions which are way better. Also the A/C can work but it's a pain to get it to idle right, and controlling emissions equipment is another area of difficulty.
be prepared to invest A LOT OF TIME in this, even if you get a PnP unit

I live by www.fftec.com and even though they don't have many rotaries, I know their tuning abilities are very adept. I don't care about A/C and emissions, they're all coming out eventually anyhow.
Thanks for the response.
If you are going to go Megasquirt, I would reccomend running your own wires. It's not that complicated and it will fix the "noise" descibed in the above post. I would also run GM air and coolant temp sensors described in the megasquirt instructions.

I used to use one on my vert and am now converting the 10thAE to run one. Used the LC-1 for the wideband.
Pretty straight forward, although I found that the Zeal version didn't have all the options I needed to work on it, so I ended up adding a couple of extra channels and sensors.

Yep, the Zeal Megasquirt does not control emissions equipment, and we don't add all the bells and whistles, such as boost control or water injection.
Other than that, we do our best to make sure anyone can just plug it in and start it up.
I'm working on a method to filter out the noise on installs that have less-than-optimal wiring harnesses as well. The trick is filtering the noise without affecting the actual signal.

RX-8 will be my next Megasquirt project.

That will be quite a challenge, do tell more.

Hey guys,
Would there happen to be a place or person where I can access ignition and fuel maps? I know I can tune fuel maps with the wideband, but I don't know the first thing to do to start tuning ignition. I would instinctively say to tune timing, you'd need to use the knock sensor. However, I know the knock sensor to be a little inaccurate at times, right?
Also, I read the MS FAQ in the MS forums, and the settings muythaibxr give are NA settings. I would need to find settings for a TII setup w/ 4x 720cc injectors. It would be nice if I could get a stock fuel map for 4x 720cc injectors.
