258,000 before the turbo install, roughly 270,000 when I tore it down for the rebuild and porting. It was still running great but I just wanted more power.

Edit...My '78 had 10K on it when I bought it, and 50K when it was scrapped (MAJOR rus issues).

'86 parts car had about 170K on it and was in disgusting shape.

My new '84 GSL-SE has about 140K on it, body basically solid but a little rust around the edges. Engine still strong but the PD leaks and the ignition is spotty...Getting a PP 12A.

27,008 actual (not rebuilt) miles on original 13B in my 91 Vert. Somebody contact me in exactly 2 years and you can buy this block. It'll probably have about 35k on it by them. I'm gonna go to the dark side and put some torque under the dash.

My friend just sold an 87 with 289K. For the last 180K+, well ever since he owned it he was adding pre mix with the OMP shaft disconected. Car has no engine issues what so ever.

MY car had 215k on it when it finally died, but was primarily a track car from 185k to 210k when I bought it. Slowly drank coolant until I overheated it, then it guzzled coolant. Just a hint on buying turbos: many times if you are patient enough you can find one for sale with a recent rebuild where they got sick and tire of pouring money into the car (or wife made them sell it)

145k on the clock and running better everyday (had to do some maintenance the previous owner neglected) no leaks, no complaints fires up and runs hot or cold.
My first 7 and I'm very impressed it won't be my last.

I bought my GXL with 168K on it with a blown rear rotor. I don't think that's too shabby considering the guy I bought it from. (his words) "I kept the tach over here (finger points at ground)." I did have a lot of fun with it on one rotor though, it'd only do 28MPH, but it did some really good donuts in the field anyway. Put another motor in it and it's at 183K now! Loving every mile.

ok now how tough are these engines? the earlier engines had the 3mm seals, but the switch to 2mm? i know the 12a' and the earlier 13b in the gsl-se were bulletproof. how many times do you redline yours.

My old Sports motor gave out at 145K, but the guy I sold it too didn't do anything about a stuck E-shaft thermovalve and didn't regularly check the oil.

My vert's motor I pulled at 135K and sold it, its got about another 15K on it since then in a GXL according to the guy I sold it too, and no sign of it going out any time soon.

I think these are just as bulletproof as the 1st gen engines, if not more so. I have no actually proof, its just common sense that mazda improved things. They went to 2mm seals because 3mm was unneccesary and added friction.
Also, I believe there was someone that got something like 350k on the original engine. Maybe sureshot or blackplauge? Can't remember for sure.

Yeah it makes sense that the engines would just be better and more refined as the years go by. Hell we can all look at the Renesis. Wonder how many miles that will go 200,000+

86 GXL w/ 140 000 original kliks. pulls hard, im definatley not driving miss daisy in this car either, although she chokes a bit when she is cold. brought her in for a once over and the mechanic nearly fell over at the great condition the engine is in. i have no fear my car will last well into the 200 range. (with proper maintenance)
