How many miles when you boosted NA?

If youve turbocharged or supercharged an NA engine, how many miles were on the engine when you did it. And did you blow the engine? If so for what reason?

mine had 55K on the clock. yes i blew it up!!!!
reason: went with a slighty largr than stock OEM turbo and 550/720 injector combo with Rtek and SAFC combo and boost built up to 14LBS. under 3500RPM's in fith gear causing it NOT to get enough fuel
BOOOOM!

258K on the odometer when I did it, put another 10K on it, then tore the engine down to port it.

98k. blew it up when the wastegate stuck shut causing overboost. tore it down and found a broken coolant seal casting as well.

Aaron Cake was the engine on it's way out? Or did you just want a bridgeport & rebuild? How much did you drive it? Daily? Weekends?

Just wondering...

The reliability will depend mainly on how the conversion is carried out. If you use good parts, then it won't be an issue. If it's all junkyard and cheap stuff, then you're going to have problems.

The main problem I had with the original setup was fluid leaks, specifically oil. I used the wrong hose, so I was always having leaks show up at the worst time. If you use good stuff like hydraulic line or AN/braided stainless that won't be a concern.

The engine was in great shape, and the car was a daily driver. I pulled the engine because I wanted to port it. Upon pulling it apart it was clear that it had many, many more miles left in it based on the shape of the rotor housings and side plates.

Detonation is not as bad as most people say it is. As long as timing is conservative, the engine will handle some detonation.

Aaron, is that 258,000 is in kilometers? If so than it's 160,000 miles. Still alot, but certainly not unheard of for an N/A rotary.

Yes, kilometers. Sorry, I forgot that the US has still not followed world standards and adopted the metric system...
