I think it all depends I know I am the 3rd owner to race my GTUs out of a toal of 4 owners and I have 173,000+ miles on her. I talked to a person who had approx 300,000+ miles on her 1st gen 12A before it let go.

but 13b wouldn't be much different from a 12a in terms of reliability right ?

It would be interesting to see what kind of vacum and compression numbers are on a 200k mile engine. Carbon must be horendous inside them boyz

My 87 NA has about 200,000 and nuthin wrong with her. My friend had an 12a with 300,000 on it. I have had better luck with 1st gen. motors.

I have 203K miles on my 87 N/A and it still runs perfect. It has gotten slightly cold blooded over time .. but otherwise no problems yet. Infact the tranny went out before the motor.

right now my '87 N/A is about to turn 180k miles, and she's still running strong. i checked the compression at about 166k and it was getting three strong 125 psi blips up front and i think 105 or 110 psi in the rear.
