I just had an oil seal go, does that count? If so, I'm 1 for 1 in less than 4 months...right before it went I changed the oil and it smelled gassy...rebuild time... <sigh>

I have owned 5 RX-7's mostly 1st gen GSL-SE's(13B engine), none blew on me, I now have a Turbo II which took about a 1 1/2 years to blow. This was my fault though for opening up air/exhaust and modding without taking care of fuel. That is the only reason these engines have a rep., kids open them up and don't have anything installed to control the boost =blown engine. Read and search, do it the right way, not like I and countless others have done it, and you can have a 300+ HP rotary street car.

I think the stats are more reflective of the owners than of the engine itself. It's a strong engine, but if you perform mods without knowing what you are doing, or don't maintain it properly, or constantly pound the crap out of it, of course it will blow.

Although this may be true, you don't see this kind of engine failure percentage on most any other car on the market. Hell not even half of the people on this poll are on their original engines, thats just rediculous.

I sure hope that Rx7s just dont attract dumb people, although some of these threads do make me wonder.
