I rebuild mine before it blew, and I think it was on its second motor. My tranny is going too. Alot of our cars are getting alot of miles, for example, I have 233,000 miles on my car.

blowing your first engine, is like some sort of right of passage. when i blew mine i was really bummed, but then i felt like i was now part of the inner loop. We should have some sort of support group for those that are newbies to this.

mine came with a dead motor, but I've replaced it with a s5 rebuild. It's running amazingly now.

However....

I've blown a motor in the following: 1984 chevette
1985 fiero (two motors)
1991 topaz
1984 prelude
1986 prelude
honerable mension:
2002 mazda protege (it didn't blow, but I tried my hardest, dammit!)

I've blown one engine 17 yrs ago, but it was a boinger in a '76 Civic.
On the other hand, I've owned four rx7's, but only three rotary engines between them--- One rusted to death so I pulled the engine and installed it into another 7 that I picked up on the cheap from a dumb blonde hairdresser who didn't know that the oil was supposed to be changed once in a while.

8 FC's? DAAAAMN! The guy that sold it to me broke an Apex seal, I don't know if that's considered "Blowing" it or not... If so, it's my 2nd engine.

My car doesn't have the original engine. I know because its blown and when I took it out, there was a pilot bearing in the e-shaft. The car has an auto tranny. Plus the water thermo valve on a car with an auto tranny is supposed to have 3 vac ports, and this one has 2.

I bought the car with the current motor blown. Well, broken water seal cause the seal channel metal broke on the center plate.

0 blown engines since buying my first RX-7 in 1988. I have owned 4 RX-7's total, and still own 2 of them. If you take care of your car, you have very little chance of blowing the engine. It has been my experience that most blown rotary engines failed from abuse, improper tuning, or failure of the owner to maintain the engine properly.

BTW, my 12A needs a rebuild, but I'm going to run it until it pops.
