Well I'm 1 for 3. The one that blew went for 190k and an apex seal went, but the rest of the car was pretty bad off too, so may it rest in pieces. The other one I sold at 55k, and I'm driving an 86 base today at 116k.

I blew my engine because I added exhaust, intake, downpipe, fcd and didn't add fuel. Won't happen again.

my two brothers and i have 5 2nd gen rx7's, all n/a between us, only one engine has blown and that was on the vert which is auto btw when it had 157k miles. my 91 engine killed itself when the pulsation dampner failed...but i think the engine just wanted to give up early, it had nothing to live for anyways...compression was dropping.

On one car ~ I've been through 1 blown NA Engine, 1 very healthy NA given up due to TII Conversion and this fresh rebuild with 989kms DEAD due to poor rebuild attributed to the builder himself. So 4th one coming.

I am about to blow this engine that I am on, I think. It has had some fuel trouble for a time, and it wore down the engine. I bought the car like this, so, sorry for being a noob, but I am just wondering, whats it like to blow an engine in the FC N/A?

Only 1 in three. '90 GTU new in '90 blew engine at 228,700, Mazda rebuild and junked care at 315,900 due to horrific body rot and blown radiator.

Currently a '90 GXL at 114,500 and '90 vert at 49,800 both exceptional.

BTW, change oil and filter faithfully at 1,500. Otherwise maintained per Mazda specs.

one.

I maintained it very well, then threw away that care by cheating on the fuel-cutoff and a straight exhaust. Didn't last a week after that.

What does mine count as? I bought my 86 GXL with 205k, (Assuming original motor?) for 200 dollars. I rebuild the engine, since I don't know the history, and it's currently being reinstalled now...
Should i count it as one blown? (although nothing was broke, but I didn't really know that, and I wanted reliability)... or just wanted to feel elite by rebuilding a wankel?

I blew the first after 106,000 on a T2. The second, which just let go with a bearing last week, lasted all of three years and 14,000 miles. Don't know what I am going to do yet.

Damn this thread is depressing. I wonder how many Mustang GTs or Corvettes are on their original engine? Id probably say 98%. Hell i know i have a few trucks around here from the 60s on their original engines, and still crank first try. Thats more than i can say in most Rx7s with a "good" engine in them.

question!!! and please answer!!

How do you know an engine is blown? i was racing a mustang on the highway and i hear poping noise, and i thought i was the Y Pipe coming loose once again because the boost dropped to 0 but i was still driving the car.

I stop and there is no boost whatsoever, Y pipe is strong as it can be, There is no smoke or leaks anywhere but the car has very rough idle and obviously lost power, turbos wont go up past 0 at all.

Im pretty sure i blew the engine, just want to make sure it could be something else, like a pipe coming loose from the turbos or something like it! can anybody post their symthoms please! Thanks

I highkt doubt is turbo failure, they have been freshly rebuilt less than 30K miles ago.

Also, the car takes forever to start as if it was floaded, then it starts at very low rpms almost as if it wants to turn off, but then gets stable but with a limpy rough iddle. It only gets stable if i give it a little gas!

I lost one on my NA but it was of natural causes. Seals just wore out with time. Turbo has yet to be put together and blown up

So....about half of these cars are on their original engines? Damn I wish I had this research before I ever bought mine.
