Im starting to think if I should drive my TII in the winter or just put it up.I just don't want it to sit through the whole winter,I don't have a garage. How many of you drive your FC in winter and for how long have you been doing this?What condition is your FC in?

 

I had a turbo II and I did not drive it in the winter

It had a new paint job that cost lots of $$ so I didnt want to get any rust or anything like that. THe beater was definantly worth it

 

i say get a beater...to much salt on the roads plus if u get a icy day have fun getting around

 

Young driver + RWD + Turbo + Winter = NO.

Park it in the driveway and buy a cheap beater. They are cheaper than you think (if you are willing to realize it's a beater and not worry about how it looks on the outside.. )

 

I'm 17, and own the car in the sig. It's my daily driver.....

 

I would but I don't have the money for one at the moment.I just got my TII up and running again.

 

i'm driving my 7 this winter.. but then again, my 7 is a beater/sleeper/beater or something.

its got enough rust on it, that i think the salt is helping the weight reduction process.

 

Nothing a set of blizzaks cant handle.

 

Don't boost and you won't have any problems...

 

my DSV won't open so im running the boost of the stock spring.Is that fine....5.5?

 

after driving thru the snow friday, i am going to be on the road as little as possible this winter. mine is an na and it was still scary.

 

I could imagine.If I drive cautiouslly I would be fine.
How did you drive though regular or careless....

I don't drive my car in the winter! I love it too much for some ****** who can't drive in the winter to side swipe me or worse! TOTAL IT! so I drive nothing no winter beatter for me public transit until next year! Then it will be a beatter! as I will have the money for it next year!

I say work a mcjob! for two months! and then walk out buy a beatter transfer the plates buy a quality car cover and park you car!

 

I'm force to put my FC in the winter within 3 weeks.
The reasons why is because my daily driver finally died on me at the best time which is winter. I drove it fine last winter with my old gxl so i think i should be fine in the snow unless its like 1ft or so.

 

I drove my 7 for only one winter. I got into my first wreck during that same winter. It's now going to be stored for the winter.

That's why I have a 1994 Plymouth Laser, I'll let that get beat up by the salt and snow. Frankly, being FWD and with narrow 185/75R14s, it'll do far better in the snow than a RWD with wider tires.

Otherwise, the RX7 is pretty stable in the winter.

Ive always driven my RX-7s in the winter. I drove my turboII with mods in the winter and had no problems while on boost. Winter is a good time to practice how to control the car in large parking lots without the tires squealing all night. Southern California winters arent bad at all. The other day I was driving around with my a/c because it was hot outside. Salt on the roads? whats that?

 

So. Cal and Fl excluded

I do...When it's nice dry sunny day.

Other times? Hell no.

 

As long as there isn't snow on the ground I drive the vert around. There aren't any problems with it but it does really suck in the snow.

That said, I drove my FC in the winter for several years without a problem. No control problems whatsoever. A good set of snow tires are a must. The real issue is the salt. Once I saw what was happening to the underside of my car, I got a beater.

 

im lucky, in colorado its illegal to use salt on the roads, so they just use tiny pebbles (almost like sand). Plus, it takes about 6 hours for 6'' of snow to melt off the streets. Why? i dont know.

Is there anywhere you can get snow tires for cheap? i hear they're pretty damn expensive.

 

They are, but they're worth it. If you have a spare set of rims, you can have normal street tires on it for the dry sunny days, but when it snows and you need to drive, you can throw on some really good blizzaks or some high quality studded tires. And having both sets of wheels will save you $$$ in the end because you wont be eating up your good snow tires when you dont need them. Oh yeah... tirechains are a godsend if you manage to get caught up in something messy.

But don't forget that other people are dumbasses out there too, and SUV's take a lot longer to stop than people think. Including the drivers of said suv's. I'd be more worried about getting hit than the snow.

i do, but i dont really have a choice, its my daily driver. i drive my moms crv when its bad. if you dont try and push it its not that bad in the snow, you just have to know the limits. plus its fun as hell to drift around in parking lots with it.

 

I think im gonna drive it this winter because I have to unless I want to walk or bus it everywhere.I'll throw 3 coats of wax on next week and was the TII every day or so when the snow really falls and when salt is everywhere.
