How many 5 series T have had an eng rebuild

sorry i know its another annoying ? by a newbie, but im doing research on whether i wnat to buy an rx7, and i want to be 100% SURE. im trying to do a LOT of research so i know what im getting myself into. anyways, im just curious as to how many people have needed engine rebuilds becuase im hearing a lot about reliability from a couple people, including my brother who used to be mechanic at a mazda/volvo dealership. i understand it depends on how the car has been taken care of previously, yada yada.... but around how many miles are you gusy forced to just rebuild it? this car will be my daily driver and i do plan on dumping somewhere around $1000 in just performance mods. Thanks again

You will find lots of Rx's have had Engines in but they are mostly down to having them Ported or messing with the boost and blowing tips (when it goes to lean).

Anyway Rx engines are not exactly Rocket Science to work on they have very few moving parts as long as you know where and what to measure and you dont over heat one there a good toy.

What u want to do is try to get your hands on a nice Rx that has recently had some engine work and you'll be fine (look for Bills for work done)

Ok

Seems as though, the turbo cars go about 100k before needing an engine. There are cars that have gone 140+, but they are rare. The n/a cars are'nt nearly as fast, but they make it up in reliability/longevity. Its not uncommon to see 160-180k before the motor lets go. But, then again, my newest n/a 90 engine died at 125k because of the dreaded little old lady cendrome. Thats where the lady puts around town for years and years, never once driving it hard to blow out the carbon. So in gerneral bolth cars are very reliable, but you're also dealing with a 11-13 year old car, so there are going to be some problems. CJ

i bought my n/a right after it was rebuilt. and that was only at 72K. i asked the previous dude what happened, but he didn't really know. only said it was stalling, wouldn't hold an idle, and didn't have any power. i still have his rebuild receipt and those were his quote from it hehe...i think it was just the fact that he never beat on it at all. he just used it as a commuter car but didn't seem like the guy who would rev it out a lot...but anyway, i've had it for about 25K now and its been PERFECT. never had a problem with it once and just have the compression tested in sept and it was extrememly strong. no leaks, starts up everytime, never flooded, no hot start problem, no cold start problem.

yeah, you never know with these cars...just have a compression test done on the car before you get it. two guys down the road from me had 225,000 ORIGINAL miles on the FC's before they went. but yeha, just take your time looking for one...check for leaks, get a compression test...and you should be fine
