indeed, and is it just me, or do the thread starters always imply or blatantly say they're the first ones to do this?

Yeah, like they think in the 19 years since the FC came out that no one every tried something before them???

I've tried to explain this before, but it seems to be a very difficult concept to grasp. Usually I get, "But it hit XXXdB, so it does sound good!" Anyone who thinks like that has obvously never heard good bass, only loud bass.

I have a question.

Since very few people who replied actually had something to say that wasn't negative - can anyone offer a better idea?

There is an awful lot of bashing the poor guy who is trying to do something productive with his time, like sharing his ideas. Just because someone else may have thought of it doesn't mean he isn't creative or smart, or at least trying something new to him.

Not one of the replies that said "search, this has been covered" was helpful. Someone could have said "this has been discussed and we found a better idea, try searching for these keywords" or something along those lines.

Lighten up guys. For all the talk of how "sacred" R7's and rotaries are, I'm not seeing your fellow enthusiast getting many kind words.

Many of these subs for small boxes require alot of power, at least the most of them that i've seen, and the free-air in a small not totally sealed area with the recommended wattage is not bad at all. Making a box for that are is easy anyway just lay some fiberglass. But please don't call my info false i know alot about the subject and was just trying to help out
I understand you were "trying" to help out. I was too by letting him know the correct info. After you've installed for at least a decade for good shops, won a few IASCA and USAC World Finals and built a show van for Rockford, then you can tell me I'm wrong. Experience shows. 130 db with 600 watts in a hatch back is no special feat btw. Try one of my folded horns sometime.

You'll find that most of the "bashing" is actually aimed at people who claim this location will produce quality sound.

Liking a car does not mean you have to agree with something an owner says, nor does it mean incorrect info from other owners shouldn't be corrected. This is primarily a technical discussion forum, not a place where we sit around stroking each others egos.

freeze, this is a threadjacking!
hehe
since so many knowledgable people have chimed in on this thread, I wonder if I could get a "professional opinion" on my setup

I'm glad you said that. these sound great in my FC... even though this box is ported, it has a surprisingly flat response. of course, this is the MTX Road Thunder (read: cheap) line, so the bass is not as clean as I'd like. but that's nothing that the enclosure or the location could help; they're just cheap drivers.

all the threads I've seen concerning subs in the FC have eiher shown them in the hatch, or in the storage bins. does anyone else have any experience running them on top of the bin location, like I am? like I said, I'm very happy with the acoustics, even if the quality of the subs is lacking.

Probably sound 100% better if you just turn your box around facing the rear

you know I tried that... didn't really like it. the whole sound got quite muddy, lost it's punch.

as for the bigness, well... it's not in my way or anything sure I lost the bins, which is kindof unfortunate, but I manage.

I was referring more specifically to the guy who started the thread. He has yet to receive any "technical" advice on how to do this any better than he did. Would it have killed anyone to answer him a little more politely?

Simply giving him an honest answer would have been taken much better than "we need the repost police" and "that won't work". The unspoken words here are "you're a moron who should just give up".

Or am I giving everyone too much credit, and the honest answer would have been "we are way too smart and way too important to give meaningful advice, so we'll just insult you and make you feel like **** instead"?

answer him politely? answer what, his question? go back to page 1, hold ctrl and hit "F", a box will appear, type in a question mark and hit "find".....guess what, no question marks until the twelth post.

he didnt come here asking if it was good setup, he came here providing misinformation that someone could have wasted time and money on if it wouldnt have been for other posters' comments. he came here displaying this as a "write up" as if it was something new and successful.

Not only that, its a different kid every week coming in here "yo look at my hot stereo, bass madd g00d".

ITS BEEN DISCUSSED A THOUSAND TIMES, DUE THE ACOUSTICS OF THE FC, THIS SETUP SUCKS.

READ IT.
LEARN IT.
REMEMBER IT.

AND STOP WASTING SERVER BANDWIDTH EVERY WEEK WITH THIS SAME BS.

Hmm.. you have me there. I guess I must be as dumb as everyone else you guys talk down to. He didn't come in and ask a question. He was explaining something he did. Trying to be helpful - unlike most everyone else in the thread.

His skills and everyone's expertise have nothing to do with my comments. I was simply pointing out something to do with manners - or lack therof.

I will end this post now - wouldn't want to waste any more bandwidth when there's thousands of guys out there that need to feel belittled.

I said someone needs to remove the spare tire. then make a fiberglass/mdf box to fit the space down in the rear, then have the sub at a slight angle on the back on the hatch area. then you have a sub and still have room for stuff in the back.

That set up and placing smaller subs (like 8" or 10") behind the rear shock towers works the best in the FC.

In fact its been long proven a single 8" sitting in a small band pass only in the area just behind one shock tower, generallly will sound better (and much deeper) than two 10" and even sometimes two 12" subs in the bin area.

sounds like your crossover is set up incorrectly then or your box is ported incorrectly for the woofer's Theil Smalls.
