I dont have experience with fiberglass fabrification but I would say find one that you like, make a mold of it, and them make the fiberglass one.

Please excuse my ignorance on the subject. Who knows, maybe it will work.

do you have experience making things out of fiberglass. if so, let me know (robuilt@aol.com), I might have a job for you. Maybe you could help me with something,.

I attempted that project once and never finished it. The ends I made out of fiberglass covered styrofoam, but the center I was gonna take the easy way out and cut a univ aluminum one to fit then paint it.

Ok fiberglass hey? Can we say pain in the a**!! Just kidding its not as hard as you may think. If you are making part of it flat (recommended) you can do it pretty easily. Just get a larg section of glass(windows or plexie) cover it with release gell(vassaline works). Mix your resin and use the wooven fiberglass for flat areas make it nice and smooth and get all of the bubbles out. You are probaly going to need about 4 layers or more. After it hardens you can peal it right off of the glass. Now you have your flat section or base to work with. Cut to lenth and width that you want. Wear A MASK! From there you can add either a foam layer or some other layer that you can cut and trim to the angles or curves that you may want. now just fiber glass over that. You may want to use fiber glass mat instead of the wooven for this part because it is easier to sand cut and form. No that you have your rough wing created sand and grind the rough parts and cut any uneaded fiberglass from the edges. The fun part strats here now you are going to need to use some kind of body filler. Smooth evenly over the entire wing. This is much easier to sand then the fiber glass is and gives it a smoother finish. Sand and shape some more when it has dried. Get some darker spray paint spray it all over. Sand again. This will help point out indents and mistakes in the finish. Now just do your priming and painting. The biggest thing with working with fiberglass without a specific mold is to TAKE YOU TIME. Its a long process but it will look great if you take your time. You can also make molds out of your wing before you paint it. That would make replicas a whole hell of a lot easier then starting over again.

Vassaline or petroleum jelly seem to work pretty good. I use it just because i was to cheap to buy release gell. It sticks a little with vasaline but nothing permanent. Just slide a putty knife or something flat under it and it will come right up. Release gel would probably work the best for making molds. Just because you are using a fiberglass mold to make another fiberglass object. I think petroleum jelly would be just fine for most applications. I used it on my dash for making a new center counsle and the fiberglass didnt stick to it at all.

You can use just about any kind of foam that will hold shape. The only kind that I wouldnt use would be spray insulation foam or expanding foam. It is way too pourus. I like using the standard white packing foam. The mold is made from fiberglass. You ussually should have about six layers. This keeps the mold nice and ridged. You can ussually only make about 30 pieces from each mold. I dont know why but it is either the release gel or the vasaline that causes it to get soft after a while and make the two stick together. You will see what i mean if you ever make that many products from one mold. So if you plan on making several hundred pieces make several molds to go with it too.

I will have a post up and a how too on my In-dash lcd computer posted hopefully by mid next month.
