How Long Do You Think a Stock Maintained TII Would Last?

I hear a lot about the TII's not lasting as long as the NA's. How long do you think a Stock Maintained TII would last?

ive seen well over 200k on a stock t2 motor... as long as its well maintained, and not completely abused.. they will last!

My '90 Turbo II has 217k miles on the stock engine. Never been raced or riced. Runs very nicely.

I too have had a 10th anny with 201k on the original motor. Had lots of problems and flooded, but did still run and drive fine.

Just out of curiosity but do any of you guys with high mileage stock TII engines have compression numbers on those engines? I'd like to see how well they are holding their compression.

My T2 has 189k on it. Not 100% sure its the original engine, but Im assuming it is. It smokes a bit on start but once it runs a while it runs strong and smooth. Id say a well maintained T2 engine will last at least 150,000 miles, if not more.

My 87 TII has 208,000 km and runs strong. Do you think rtek 1.7 with 720cc secodarys and 10psi would be dangerous on an engine with that many kilometers?

the FAQ claims 125k-175k depending largely on maintenance

Thanks for the replies.
I do remember reading that in the FAQ. In less than a month I'll be making a 1000 mile trip home in an 87 TII w/ 89k on it and just wanted some assurance. ;-)

It should be able to handle it. I made about a 200 mile trip home with mine about a month ago. If it wasnt for a few wiring issues it would of gone without a hitch. I never once saw any problems from extended highway driving. So Id say dont worry about it, and go

extended highway driving tends not to cause problems... if the car is problematic I wouldn't take it on the trip, but if it's not given your trouble before it probably won't now.

I've driven my 10AE on many (long) trips, including one about 2000 miles roundtrip without an issue.

mines 100% stock and makes lowcompression at 97 thousand miles. The previous owner either A) didn't brake it in right or B) just ran it really hard

I have an 87 TII with 116,000kms 67psi on the rear, 71psi on the front. Its sitting awaiting a rebuild.

Would flood every time if it didnt have a fuel pump kill switch, but it ran fine and boosted 10-12psi on the stock turbo for at least 40,000kms. And I wasn't exactly soft on the ol' keg either

I'm looking at one now with under 90k on it. It's been adult owned it's entire life. It does have the fuel pump swith 'mod' but I'm hoping that if I don't mod it it will last. I'd probably put that rtek 1.7 in for additional safety. It's over a 1000 mile ride home though. :-/ Oh and the oil pressure gauge doesn't work. It rests below zero.

So what do you think caused the coolant seal to go?

I wonder if it was from age, abuse or lack of use (having low miles).
