How long do the turbos usualy last?

I am looking at a TII i want to buy with a new motor with 50k on it. Everything else has 150k. He said he dosnt know if the turbo has ever been replaced. I am assuming it hasnt. He said he looked at it when he was getting a new gasket for it, and everything looked fine. He says everything runs fine also, so im assuming its still good. The car is stock still execpt for few mods, exhaust stuff, and just minor stuff removed. He says he is more about making the car have a longer life time span and running cooler. Anyways I am just curious what the avg turbo life span is??

The guy I was going to buy the T2 parts car from... at the last minute he decided he wanted to fix it up. So ya...I am just going to by a T2 instead now :P Fix up the n/a and probably sell it, or keep it and have both of the worlds in my hand :P

I noticed your n/a - t2 is going pretty well though. It looks awesome, keep up the work

First mod - a turbo timer.
So - who makes an inexpensive one?

or you could not be lazy and just sit in the car for a few. I prefer the don't drive it hard for about 5-10 mins before I park method.

I am looking at one in indianapolis right now. Pretty nice condition and it sounds like the owner kept good care of it. So we will see...pretty sure I am going to purchase it.

My turbo is still in very good condition, no shaft play what so ever and it has 193,454 miles on the orignal motor, turbo, intercooler and all. Still pulls hard and runs great! 13.9 @ 100 mph

My $0.02

I wouldn't worry too much. Turbo upgrades aren't that expensive and well worth it.
