How long to close for YOUR sunroof??

Yeah mine does that to sometimes.
And I don't know if this is normal, but once mine gets up in the back it then stops moving as if it has died. Then if you push the button again it opens up just fine. And I think it is made that way because it feels so smooth, and is always in the exact same place.

haha, i tried to open mine last week, when it was pretty cold, and i couldn't close it all night.
I live on Jamaica Ave., thank god I have a stock radio I was sure someone was gonna steal something.
Question: Is there a special type of lube to lubricate it with? Can i Take the sunroof out to cleann it better?

Last time I used it, it took about 10 seconds after pushing up on it to get it going. Needed a little prodding to seat when closing, as well. The car has been sitting for a year with no motor - so once the new motor is installed and I drive the car, I expect the sunroof will need some attention.
Opening is once again a manual crank halfway until the motor can grab it and get it going backwards. Closing is probably 6-8 seconds. Never been replaced. I regreased my tracks and it worked like gold for 3 days, then I had to regrease it again.. and it still doesn't work.
Yes, it's supposed to stop at the point where it's open completely, then it will move back. Closes all in one move though. I like to open mine about another inch so that air actually comes in better but that bar doesn't pop up yet.
Yeah, pushing them up sucks too. I don't hold the button, I just push it for a second, hit the back of it once, then push the button and it opens up.
FOR THOSE WHO LEAK: If your sunroof leaks sometimes and it also sticks when you open, the leak may be cause by trying to open it, then leaving it there. In this position the seal doesn't seal completely due to the fact that it's been OPENED and water can leak in. Just make sure you close the roof all the way before you leave your car or when you close your door the roof'll pop open. Watch it next time, if it's fully closed it will close again, tried to open, it will stay slightly open.
Sorry for the length.

The sunroof motors tend to wear out, and the tracks grease in the gear tracks tends to get pretty hard.
After cleaning out the gear tracks, getting a pair of new tracks, and a brand new sunroof motor, its around 5 or 6 seconds, without requiring any pushes or the likes.
I use white grease (due to its resistance to water) to lube the gear tracks and the sunroof gear, and leave the aluminum sliders with no grease; I just keep them clean.
FYI, the $100 or so gears for EACH side of the sunroof are made differently than stock now... they have been superceded on the contact bushings.
Also, you can align the sunroof via the 4 nuts. This can really help with a sticky sunroof if you know how to get it aligned right.

not sure if its been talked about before, but are you able to "shave" out the sun roof? weld some metal over the space, cover it up? i like the no sun roof look, plus it could help with rust. if i want a taste of the sun and wind, ill go drive the miata. if it could be done, how much do you think it would cost?

Sorry for bringing this old thread back up for those who care. I actually help my sunroof open and close with my hads. My motor is still working, though i probably need a new one in the future. Yet i still get it open under 8 secs.

Someone should start one on how long it takes the vert top to completely open and close. My old 7 (which was newer than my current one) also needed a lil push for it to pass the vent possition, but after that it was quite a lil speedster.
hahhaha i need to push that bad boy up, but i think its because i put a glass onr, see pics on second gen. i think it needs a shot of wd-40 along with viagra to get it "up" and running lol
