Question How long can an engine last?

I have an 87 non-turbo that I've babied for most of its life. It has 105k on the engine and I was wondering how long I might have before I have to start saving for a new one. Can anyone give me an idea??

Thanks

Well, if you redline your engine occasionally, expect about 150-200K miles out of the engine. Just check your oil and coolant weekly.

Turbo engines are a different story...96K on mine and it needs work!

"Rotary engines aren't an idiot proof motor" Meaning that if you take care of them, they can last you just as long as a piston engine. Piston engines take a lot more abuse as far as being a lasy biotch and not taking care of them.

An engine can last until it blows, beyond that it is no good.

If you take care of it your engine will easily last 175,000 to 200,000

200-300K miles if you follow the recommended maintenance, due tuneups every 30K, and make sure that pulsation dampin-thingamabob doesn't leak gas on the engine

Expect 200k miles from your NA if you treat it really good. Anything more is a bonus... anything less is not too great.

It is not a mileage thing it is a care thing. If you treat it good it will last very very long, if you are a fast and furious wannabe it might last you one day...

The engine CAN last you virtually forever if maintained properly, in cases such as these the more relevant question is how long the paint/body will hold out.
