How important is cold air with a FM?

hey guys,
I have a decent sides front mount now and just have the filter on the turbo.. I was wondering of it would be even worth my while to take the effort and build a cold air setup it? or just use the FM and be happy? thanks guys!

It doesn't matter how good your intercooling is, the hotter the air entering the filter is, the less power you will have and the closer to detonation you will be. You have the filter in the worst possible place (is there anywhere hotter?), so you're just throwing away free power and reducing the engine's efficiency. Does that make you happy?

I would say make a cold air or at least something off the turbo. Why hasn't the snail ate the filter yet, hehe.

BTW you have PM

And it is very important that you have the coolest possible intake temps from the start. If you leave your filter at the mouth of the turbo it will start off with ~160-200+ degree temps Ferenheit sp?? I have seen it go farther but my current guage isn't accurate above 225*
If you start off with a cool temp you will end up with overall cooler temps.

my pod is just open in the engine bay and have been meaning to get around to sealing them off from the heat. but i notice my temps after the FMIC are close to ambient. yes it will help, but just because your eng bay temps are 30deg C plus hotter then ambient doesn't mean you'll have a 30deg C increase after the IC

it was Nick86 that made the setup.. that looks like a neat setup and just get the filter in the fender well.. I would route it like my other setup i had where i went though the rad bracing and put it in front of the rad but thats where the ic is running now..

I thought I heard my name!

Here's the link to that thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=181680

It has pics and description of what I did.

Once you remove the washer bottle, there is a ton of room down there. Where you route the intake is entirely up to you! I'm just not sure how much space you'd have with a front mount as well........

There are only a couple that I can find:

And this one:

I do have a couple others, but I don't seem to have them on my computer. The car is in storage so I can't take any new ones right now - but I'll keep looking for the other pics.

It looked like the last hole on a mini golf course where the ball goes back to the clubhouse. LOL
Nice work though
Yes, I had the same thing, but with a scoop in the hood right above the box.

i just removed the windshield box OMG what a pain in the ***.. freakin hidden bolts! Anyways i am going to do the same setup but instead of going though the fog light hole im just going to have the filter in the fender area there.. theres lots of room and cold air.. ill post pics when I finish it but wont be for a bit now.. cars off the road and i dont have to tools here.. no point driving it anyways since theres a ring for stealing these cars around here.. If you park one anywhere consider it gone.. theres been 2 breakins off a local forum in under 5 hours..
