Cool How I fixed my broken alternator! Good story of stupidity and irony

the other day i had some probs starting and my ps was going out
then again yesterday i got stranded and had to get a jump. not to mention that ******* guy giving me a jump thought red was neg and black was positive and i welded my battery terminal to the connector, however i just fixed that with a knife

anyways, i figured the reason for my dead battery was because i didnt have an airpump, so i grabbed my friends from a s4 n/a, put it on only to find out that t2's have different airpumps, and my airpump hose is missing.
so i go to the junkyard, but my stereo cut out, and my ps was going all weird, so i decided to turn around. good thing because my car wouldnt start again after that. lucky me that i turned around

so i pushed my car into the street after checking every single fuse, and had my dads truck jumpstart my car, well it jumped and as soon as i pulled the cables off of the trucks battery, it died. hmmmm, no alternator. i jumped it again and let it charge for like 15 minutes this time, just enough to get it into the driv3ewya before it died. so i started looking at how much alternators are and blah blah blah.
then mike (j9fd3s) tells me that any 81-88 alt will work, well. i have my 85 gsl in the driveway.

so at 9pm i start pulling my fb alt and then pull my fc alt, i forgot to take off the wires first, and found out that my goddamn alternator power wire wasnt connected at all, it was just hanging loose on the thing, no nut at all, just fell off when i grabbed the boot.

so my dumb *** struggles to get that stupid spacer back in, and get the alt back on, and that ******* wire on, which took forever, all with a flashlight between my head and shoulder, then get everything done, tighten it up. only to find out.....
that my dad stole my spare keys so i cant get the caprice to jump my car with, that bastage. so i decide to pull my FBs batt and see if that has enough juice to start my car, well. one of the terminal screws is stripped to hell, and i stripped it a little bit more, so im waiting for a friend to come over and give me a jump to make sure that fixed everything

the end!

point of this story is, dig a little deeper before ordering new parts. i wouldve just checked my alt with a voltmeter and ordered something. why? because im a dumbass

youre using my bad example of playing with alternators at night

the way i see it if you can do something without the proper tools and lighting under a stressful situation, doing it with a proper shop and getting payed for it should be ******* easy!

so the recap for today is, installed an n/a airpump that wont work and took that back out, struggled with my fan shroud for 10 minutes, nearly stranded myself, bought some shitty jumper cables, a maglite and some krylon satin black. painted my wiper arms and some brackets, checked every fuse on my car, and uninstalled my fb's alt, and then uninstalled my fc alt and reinstalled it

For future reference, not having an air pump will not have any effect on charging.
