How hard is it to do a rebuild

How hard is it to rebuild a 13bt, from pulling the engine out to putting back in with new seels etc..

Like how long has it taken you guys, could it be done ova a weekend?

I would like to hear from guys who did it for the first time and would you recommend it to someone else doing?

Also, other than an engine hoist and jack are there any other 'unusual tools' required?

I did it, and it was the first major car repair I tried. Its not that hard, but you need time and space to work on the car. Theres is no way you will finish it in one weekend. If youre doing it for the first time, it'll probably be closer to months. If you need the car finished quickly, buy a used or rebuilt engine and just swap them. That would probably take you about a weekend.

For just replacing the engine, you only really need an engine hoist, and a standard set of tools. Since its out though, you may as well replace the clutch, so you'll need tools and parts for that. If youre rebuilding, you'll need more tools, check out the video that atkins rotary sells, it'll show you step by step what you need. Off hand, the most expensive tools you'll need are measuring ones, micrometers, calipers, etc.

I would recommend rebuilding it, if you have the time and space. Its a great way to learn about these cars, and if you do it yourself, you'll know its done right.

Cheers dood for the insight. What do you reckon about getting the new stuff directly from a mazda dealer? Does mazda do a 'rebuild kit' as such?
