Nice!

Here's another "artist's rendition" for people who have MS Word.

Hate to tell you this but that "artists rendition" is showing the bolt being tightened, not loosened.

Yeah, I know. Here's the thread that I originally posted it in:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hlight=Flywheel

Where I make refrence to the fact that it is being tightened! So I'm not a complete idiot; just a semi-one.

Why not just throw a straight peice of metal behind the flywheel?? There's a section that's a littlke more extruded that makes a perfect stop. just slid a crowbar behind the FW and you'll understand what I mean...

I like paying too much money for mazdatrix parts as much as the next guy, but why when other, cheaper things are just as effective??

Because the right tool makes the job SOOOO much easier. Ever tried to remove a Flywheel with the engine on a stand. It is in this situation that the flywheel stop works much better. AND SAFER!!!!

I don't like having my engines on the garage florr rolling around trying to unbolt/disassemble crap. They go from the hoist to the stand. Much safer and easier

Actually the best tool I've found for doing that is my +500ft# impact gun. I didn't even have to hold the flywheel, and the nut came off in less than a second.

I had the same trouble the other day. 1/2" drive impact at 130 psi took the flywheel nut off no problem, but wouldn't budge the pulley bolt. I tipped the engine back onto the flywheel, and filled the pulley area around the head of the bolt with penetrating oil. A couple days later, it came off no problem.

THe price is well worth it. I paid $50 for the Flyhweel nut remover and the flywheels stopper.

If you wanna spend all this timing trying to ghetto rig something to work thats dandy. But in the meantime, I can get a front pulley bolt and flywheel nut off in 30 seconds flat.

It's worth the money. You cant put a value on having the right tool for the right job heh

I had the flywheel nut loosened for me. The front nut was taken off by shoving one of the long bolts through the exhaust port into the dead rotorhousing, so the rotor would wedge against it. The engine was sitting on a tire. I stood on my 2 foot braker bar and bounced up and down. The bouncing is what losend it. Rotor had a nice dent it in, but it was long dead.

Well sticking a bar threw the engine may work but not every one takes apart a dead engine but if you don't have an air gun just take a wrench or socket with a rachet and get a nice sized hammer and beat the crap out of the wrench or ratchet the hitting is just like an air wrench it will work it will just takes longer and also it is not a nut it is a bolt the big nut holds the fly wheel on

I usually just heat up the bolt with a torch (MPS) and then put a breaker bar on it and turn over the engine via the starter with the plugs out.

Easy as hell.

Ummm... 1. everyone knew it was a bolt, and 2. that is a fantastic way to damage the ratcheting mechanism in the ratchet. Why not just spend the money buying the right tools as opposed to spending the money replacing tools?

that bolt came off pretty easy for me. Get an impact wrench, or buy an iron pipe (3/4 inch diameter) and wedge it between the counterweight and the block, then get a 4 ft. long cheater bar on a torque wrench and pull. That's how I got off the flywheel nut, but I broke 3 torque wrenches that way. I actually sheared off the driver on a craftsman wrench!
