Now I've driven a 2001 Vette 6 speed and pulled 175 in 5th, then switch to 6th and loose 10 mph hehehe, Same thing with the Dodge Viper (Same buddy had the Vette that I drove,... rich *****) but the Viper would do 183ish in 5th then drop 10mph or so in 6th.

If I had a choice of a free car that I could not sell but had to drive, the Vette would win hands down. New Vette Mo Betta than any rex I've driven, there a dime a donzen though unlike an RX-7. I've seen maybe 6 different rex's on the streets in my area of 250k ppl or so.

well, when im on the interstate, i automatically redline 1-4 and then hit 5th gear. I know about 5500 in 4th gear is about 85-90, or so it was last time..... I did it.. lol

eek, I could be wrong. I don't know. I don't go that fast anymore since I have been pulled over - not for going that fast though, just for speeding.. lol.

No, she wasn't stock. Downpipe and hi-flo cat and K&N in the stock airbox. The airbox has since been dropped for a very nice DIY cold air box. She just needs headers and a cat-back and that'll be it for engine mods for me.

I haven't had a chance to see what she'll hit with the new box yet. Soon, I hope...

My '89 convertible and my old '90 GTU both read 140 on the speedometer at about 8000 RPM's, maybe pushing a little into the redline. I doubt they're actually going that fast given speedo error... but that's what the speedo said.

The only time I ever see those speeds anymore is on my CBR. It's not exciting to do in a car, so I don't do it.

Well this sucks.. I topped out at 124 in 4th out here on I-71.. I was hitting redline too! But this was back in the day, last summer, when all I had was just dp/mp/cat back. Plus I'm pretty sure my turbo is caput. I shifted into 5th, and lost like 2 mph. ZERO pull what so ever in 5th gear. And whatever car it was I was racing, some big luxery sedan PULLED on me and left me. It was SAD!!! I remember doing over 120 in my '89 GXL one night and was pulling in 5th gear. Let off though. I was scared . night time, country roads.. animals.... Wrecked that thing though.

ive hit around 125 without redlining 4th gear, but as soon as i shifted to 5th I started to lose power, the car didn't seem to want to accelerate much more.

^ lol, you got some ***** keeping it at redline for that long I've topped my car out at least 3 times. 7900 rpm at 135mph in 4th, 5th gear it starts decelerating.

S4 Redline Speeds (@ 7000) Assuming non-86, NA tranny, 24.7" overall diameter, manual transmission, mph scale
1st: 36
2nd: 63
3rd: 92
4th: 125
5th: 179.89 (Yeah, not going to happen on a stock NA, or any NA for that matter with this tranny)

S5 Redline Speeds (@ 8000) Assuming non-GTUs, NA tranny, 24.7" overall diameter, manual transmission, mph scale
1st: 41
2nd: 72
3rd: 105
4th: 143 (You'll have difficulty on a stock NA)
5th: 205.59 (Yeah, right)

86 and GTUs speeds are slightly different, 86's will have a slightly lower 5th gear max speed with better acceleration than its S4 bretheren due to a slightly taller 5th gear. The GTUs will have a lower top speed in every gear due to it's 4.3 Final Drive Gear as well as better acceleration and even lower top speed in 5th due to it's significantly taller 5th gear. (Think 10% taller, which equals 10% better acceleration in 5th gear based on 5th gear gearing alone)

After my Mazda Reman. engine was installed, I topped out at about 118 in 4th. Granted most of these cars getting 130 140 150 etc, are Tii's and S5's, but I am curious to see if this is typical of S4 NA's. These speeds are all with my 14's. Haven't bothered runnnig with my 18's.
Body is S5, but where it counts mine is an '88 GXL. I've never found her top end. Fastest I've had her was about 135 and still pulling a bit in 5th, so she would have given a little bit more, but I ran out of "safe" road. Pure speed has never given me much of a thrill, so I've never had the motivation to try again.

Granted, I've done a couple things to my motor so it isn't stock, but nothing as drastic as any kind of port job. 110 is a daily drive to work (and on occation while at work), so that probably accounts for the rear end problem I'm currently wrestling with.

use this link.... thanks to Roen

http://www.kabamus.com/garage/gears.html

You guys need to live in the boonies so you can mess around

i usually only do 4th gear pulls but 3 times now we have done full 5th

I dont have a speedo back in the car yet, but i had always thought around 180 but according to that site it was around 193........ Math never lies

275/45/17 DR's, 4.1 rear......... I had the rev limiter set at 7.5k and i know i got there each time because that is were i had the hard cut set at and it hit hard cut each time

s5 TII tranny are a .752 right??

way waaaay back the na auto would take awhile but get to about 135 on the stock guage

Whoa.... I guess the S5 TII has a .719 ratio not a .752 like i thought....

With that calculator that means 202mph at 7.5k with my tires and rear..... How the **** could it be that fast???..... I always thought in my head about 180, def felt fast but i didnt think that fast, cuz it pulls too hard in 5th for me to think it got to those speeds as quickly as it does

maybe no more of those for awhile

edit... ha, roen i had just found on mazdatrix it is a .719 too

blame the n00b, i just posted the end-all speed chart as defined by gear ratio. all questions should be directed to that post.

Good ol' Mazdatrix and their ratio page.
