I was in SLC last year around summer time and i was coming back from my sisters with my best friend. I was driving my 90 GTU and here comes a new green civic coupe from Texas. It is not like me to just start a race. This guy was taunting me. So when he started to pull back again i downshifted into 4th and gunned it. I went all threw SCL going 130 and i looked back and didnt see him. I slowed down to 55 to let my mom and dad catch up and never saw that civic again. Don't mess with Texas? HA!

according to this:
http://www.mgb.bc.ca/misc/tirecalc.html
I was going approx 157mph.
RPMs were still going up...it was very nervous though.
Like I siad before the speedo isnt off that much (35+mph) like you were trying to tell me.

The police figured I was going 120mph+ because of the lump on my head and the distance I was thrown times the diameter of the hole in the wall. The fastest I've tripped the radar was 134mph. You now those police signs that say you are going this fast and blink red when you are speeding? I had a friend follow me as I punched it towards the radar and it flashed 134mph.

The easiest way to find your top speed is to have a gps in your car. I have a $300 handheld gps i took with me when i tested my cars. In my older 88 FC TII i had it at 135.6 -i dont know what my rpms really were because i was too afraid to take my eyes off the road. I even had my dads POS 1985 BMW 325e @ 120 -gps are fun! + they are very accurate.

one other variable to throw at you fellas,,, to add to your equations,,,,,,,even with a 2000 dollar set of the best z rated super high speed fast and furious STREET tires anyone here might have,,,,,,they will and do expand in diameter at 130-188 mph,,,,,,,,so your 26.515 inch diameter tire just expanded to 27inches while spinning itself at 2000+ rpm,,,,,,,,,,,which throws off yet another equation,,,,,,hmmmmm
-----------------------------------
i didnt see that mentioned and wanted to throw in 2 cents. so how bout those 49's?lol

No kidding.
That said, right after I picked up my S5 T-Vert from the tuner (P2000 Haltech, T04E, etc), driving down the 210 my first experience of 300+rhp. Kid in a Jetta pulled up behind me on my tail, I sped up, he pulled up, sped up more, you get the story.
Anyway, I looked at my Speedo and I was doing between 120 and 125 (speed is only about 4mph fast when I had it calibrated) and I was far from pushing it. Took my foot off the gas, pulled over, and waived the kid bye. Scared the crap outta me as it was about 8:30PM, well into cop prime time and me with no get outta jail card. I mean, the car wasn't even trying hard. Not EVER going to let that happen again.
From that experience, maybe one day I'll take it out on a Track to to see where how fast it will go before it stops pulling just to satify my curiosity.

I've done 137-140 numerous times in my TII, but the only difference top speed wise is how long it takes to get there between a TII and an N/A, they're near the same gear ratios. Now when you get to like 130 or so, I doubt the N/A would have the power-to-time ratio to pull anymore. But this is just a matter of opinion.
When I'm doing 65 on the interstate, my speedo is reading 68mph, 3 off, when I'm doing 80, it reads 85mph, 5 off. When I'm doing 120, I read 130, 10 off. I really don't care too much to figure out my speed when I'm going over 100, its just retarded except to glance in a split second at the speedo to say holy ****.
At 65mph I cruise at 3,300rpm. This is with a TII S4 differential, TII S4 transmission, and TII S4 engine, on a S5 chassis with 91 Convertible mesh rims (15x7?). Large streetport, Wastegate ported, straight-exhaust (two canisters at the end), emissions gone, throttle body modded, 10 psi, no PS, no AC, no mechanical fan (not that it matters), cold air intake (not that THAT matters), and an Exedy 4 puck sprung clutch/pressure plate. (probably more, don't really care to list)
To this day I agree it was stupid for me to do it not once but twice. A 20 year old car should ONLY do these speeds if it has KNOWINGLY (by YOU) had the suspension and all chassis components involving stability replaced or checked.
And my 85 Trans-Am, with 4:11 rear gears and a built 700r-4, on a fairly built 305, I hit 120, wasn't into pushing any harder seeing as how the engine was screaming at that speed... But it got there pretty quick.

i usually only go up to about 145 while tuning, i generally don't bother tuning through the end of fifth on the road unless it was just straight and flat for miles with no traffic. some cars are just scary at those speeds too, i hate those. bump steer can kiss my ***...my car feels right at home at those speeds though, however i usually don't have a road to do anything more than that with.

When I first got my car (S4 TII) I got up to 137 on the most boring stretch of I-10 east of Texas.
In retrospect it was probably the dumbest thing I've ever done. It was dark, the car was/is old, the components were untested, and the next morning I found out the tires were dry rotted.....

150 in 5th. Street ported S4 TII, RB exhaust, high flow fuel pump, 720cc secondaries. I've checked my speedo with a GPS at 120 and it was dead nuts on, so if the tires expand any after that it might only mean I was actually going faster than 150, or at least balance out inaccuracy in the speedo. It got up to 135-140 pretty quick then crept the last 10mph in 5th. If the turbo flowed more I could have gotten a good bit more out of 4th gear before shifting up. My goal was 150 so I gave it up once I hit it.
