How far should the clutch slave piston move the fork?
Just put the tranny back up after replacing the pivot ball.
I greased the pivot and the shaft that the throwout bearing slides on and checked to make sure the TB spun easily.
I did not check the pilot bearing BUT the clutch/etc are all less than 5K old(ACT flywheel and heavy duty PP and clutch).
Then rebuilt a master cylinder and bled the system.
Car will not shift while running.
How far should the clutch slave piston push the fork? Mines moving it about 1 inch.
I'll have to check again to get exact distance.
Anyone care to chime in on whether that's close to normal?

Your pivot ball broke, right?
I wouldn't have pulled tranny on and off without checking the pilot bearing. A bad pilot bearing can do just what you are describing.

The pilot bearing can be destroyed while putting in the transmission, especially if you use the ole 'get a bolt in and use it to pull it in' method.

bit the bullet and pulled the tranny today
here is what I was welcomed by.
Yup, it was pilot bearing. It grenaded.
There's a needle bearing sticking to the input shaft.

One obviously at the end in there.
