How to Double Clutch...

I am going to be putting in a new tranny and clutch soon
so I think now would be a good time to learn how to DBL clutch without worrying about screwin up the tranny so could someone tell me how to do it I had a friend try to explain it but he wasnt totally sure and so I didnt understand how too from what he was sayin.
Try and put it as simply as possible.

Ok watch my hands.....wait!!! No never mind... all you do is clutch, shift into neutral, clutch in, shift to gear....and woola!!!! all better. It isn't that hard so don't worry about it and it is a useless trick unless you drift like moa. It is for mainly used for matchin rpms with the drive train so you don't get that jerk when you shift down into a lower gear. Regular people use it when going around a corner....shift it into neutral....play with breaks and what not around the corner than shift it into second on the exit. Not too hard.

or you can just watch your RPM's and know when to let the clutch out. A good racer knows how to match his shift without looking just by the sound or feel of the engine.

Double clutching is unnecessary with synchromesh gear boxes. It's a technique for matching engine RPM and tranny RPM on "crash" or synchro-less gear boxes.

Also double clutching takes twice as long to complete your shift.

With a synchromesh tranny, you want to learn to heel/toe to match rpm's.

hahaha. you watch too much F&F. it's used for down shifting, while entering a corner, going uphill etc. not used for shifting up. don't listen to anything in that movie.

Heel/toe if I understand correctly is when you are applying the brakes and you want to downshift. You keep your toes on the brake and roll your heel to the gas, blip it and shift so when you come out of the corner or whatever all ya do is floor the damn thing. This can be very tricky to do in an FC because of how close the carpet is to the gas pedal.

Yeah..On a downshift, just brake, clutch in, disengage gear, blip the throttle, push in gear, clutch out.

Its that easy. You dont need to let the clutch out while in neutral really..all youll be doing is spinning up the layshaft

Thats the way I do it and its worked perfectly...but truth be told, its pretty pointless with syncromesh transmissions.

That sounds about right...if I tried to use my heel and toe, I'd have to take off the steering wheel to get my knee up that high.

Heel and toe is where it is at. It is a great thing to know how to do. I use it autoxing and in daily driving.

The best heel and toe I did was at autox. There was a 180° turn around a cone. Had to slow to make the turn. and if I did not exit in first gear I would be at 2500 rpm in 2nd gear. No power there.

So while applying full brakes to slow down I heel and toed down to 1st gear. After it was complet I was at 6000rpm in first gear....then it feel to about 5000 after the turn. Ready to stomp on it for the exit of the turn If I just downshifted into 1st and didnt heel and toe it would have been ugly.

How did you downshift to 1st? I have never been able to do that unless I was doing under 20kph, there is a lock on the syncro so you don't dammage it. Was this done in a seccond gen car?
