How does my car start??? (TPS Related)
Just got to thinking....
I know there must be some circuit for it, but I dunno.
My car currently does not have a TPS plugged in.
The car is an 89.
Since the "failsafe" is 100 percent throttle if the ECU doesn't detect a TPS, or it is functioning incorrectly... how does my car start?
Most of you know that with S5s, if the TPS reading is 100 percent, it cuts fuel.
So just kinda curious.
Also:
I was reading in the FSM the other day that you shouldn't re-calibrate the TPS unless you are putting a new one on.... Something about the ECU re-calibrates itself...

I don't think the TPS 100% throttle position is the same position that we think of as "WOT"...On an S4, the throttle's only, what, 2/3 of the way open when the TPS plunger disengages the linkage???
He has an S5, which can read 100% throttle.
The ECU is smarter than you give it credit for. Because it cannot see a throttle position signal, it is using a default value of 100% in normal operation. But that doesn't mean it's blindly interpreting that signal as full throttle. It's an error state, not a normal reading, so it knows not to turn the injectors off when cranking.
Why is your TPS unplugged?

The full range sensor was full of **** or something, It would not smoothly mash in. It would catch on something. I couldn't figure out how the hell to take the actual sensor apart.... the narrow range doesn't read correctly at all either.
I just haven't had the cash to buy one. Only thing on my shopping list for the rex now is TPS, split air solenoid valve (in the ACV), and fuel injector o-rings/grommets.
