How do you re-assemble the AUX ports? Broken Shaft!

Ok, so i finally ripped the lower intake off to clean my aux ports. the front one was STUCK! the rear one was just dirty.

So after an hour of working with the sleeves (took me 30 mins to get them out) i have those clean and the inside clean. They now spin freely.

BUT now i have the shafts, the rear shaft is fine, a little oil and it is now working perfect. but the front shaft was so jammed i could not turn it with vice grips.

So after 45 mins of working with it I almost had the shaft out, then all of the sudden, SNAP! the head snapped off where the clip goes to hold it in.

I called Mazda and they don't make this anymore so my only option is to get som JB weld and weld that sucker back.

So now my problem, there are 2 of them.

1: how do you put the sleeves in the block so that they open correctly? hole facing down? up? pictures would be GREAT.

2: does anyone either know where i can get a new shaft? or have a picture of a front shaft? so i can match up mine when i weld it back.

Ok, i went by the place that i got the car and he happened to have another intake he is selling me for $50. so that saves the broken shaft.

BUT i still don't know how to line up the aux ports to make sure they open right.

Are they supposed to be up or down when you put it back together?

It's in the S4 FSM, Engine section, page 1-78. I just put my LIM back on and had to look up the same thing.

Ok, so i am out here about to reinstall the lower intake and it just doesn't seem right.

Does anyone know which direction the hole in the aux port sleev is suppose to be pointing when you reinstall the sleve? When i was taking the sleeves out the pins came out of them (they were stuck GOOD). I think i got them back in right but can't be sure.

which direction are the aux ports? i would think towards the rotor housing right?

Playing with them it seems that they will be opening down/up and not sideways.

Anyone knowhow they are supposed to work?

If you line up the sleeves like the picture they will rotate the correct way. what you have to do is make sure the shafts are in closed position when you put the manifold on. I held mine by hand, i should have tape/wired or secured them closed before installing the manifold would have been easier. good luck

right but the problem is those pins that you are supposed to use to line them up came out of my sleeves and i am not sure if i put them in the right way.

AKA, they could be backwards and thus the sleeves would be backwards.

Does anyone know if the aux port hole is up or down when closed? and which direct should that hole be when the port is open?

hole is down when closed, it faces towards the middle of the engine when open.
