How do you prevent Carbon Lock

I see all sorts of atf treatments for cars with carbon lock and various other techniques. But what should you do to try and prevent it. Quick story ........I had an 85 7 that was locked up. When I bought it I was told it needed a fuel filter because the old one had been pop off when the bastard tried to park it backwards on a snow bank. I didnt know anything about rx7 but a did a little reading up before I bought the car and decided to get it because of the incredible rotary engine. I replaced that and ended up replacing the starter too in the end. I tried to rock it back and forth in gear. I tried the atf treatment even leaving it in there for a few weeks. I tried turning in by hand and nothing worked. I ended up buying an engine off a friend but then found out that no around here would but it in and I didnt have the place to do it at the time. So the car and engine was sold for $50. I just wanted some tips to prevent carbon lock up to my 88 n/a. Thanks for your help.

P.s. This site is incredible I would like to thank all those that have put the time and support into it.

Never shut the car off before it's fully warmed. That's the main problem.

Taking it up to redline doesn't mean jack.... you can hit redline every shift and still have carbon problems.

make sure your timing is on, and redline every once in a while. You could also steam the engine (put water into the intake).

After carbon lock? That is the fastest way to making an apex seal kit. That is to say, get some glue and all of the broken pieces of seal.....

If you carbon lock, you NEVER EVER FORCE THE ENGINE. You gently work it back and forth until it turns freely by hand. Any other method is a sure way of doing damage.

Change the oil more frequently so that you are not injecting dirty oil into the engine. Do not use oil additives.

Keep the engine properly tuned.

Never shut off cold, and running it to redline when warm once in a while shouldn't hurt.

Toss in a bottle of quality FI cleaner every now and then.

Dump the OMP/MOP and go premix.

Running to redline once in a while doesn't mean much.

It's how you drive the car. Once it's warmed up, beat on it mercilessly all the time. Not just redline once a day. Don't let your engine go out of tune... misfiring and running excessively rich contribute carbon growth.

Dont run super-unleaded. Regular gas is fine and you will have less chance of carbon lock.
