how do you know when to change your spark plug wires?

I spose the real way would be to test them for resistance, the more the worse they are.
I don't know what the symptoms would be, but if they are starting to go you sure as hell wouldn't get a very powerfull spark. I would assume shitty fuel economy and possibly some missing if the wires were really bad.
For cars like ours, its usually a good idea to replace them, I mean its only been about 17 years for most of us. I went out and bought an accell kit from partsource for about 100$. I doubt these will have problems for the rest of the cars life.

Normally most only change the wires when they feel the car "missing", then do a check and find it's the wire(s). A good quality wire is very durable and will last a long time. I replaced my original wires ('89TII) in 2002 with 155,000 miles. No problems, but as I was having the engine replaced, just thought I'd add some Megacore wires (overkill). You can always measure the resistance.
